Playmobil 5258/4010 traction tyres

Playmobil 5258 yellow battery Diesel Loco and Playmobil 4010 red battery Electric (cargo) Loco, I understand that the traction tyres for both of these are the same, and a couple of years back bought a pack of spare tyres. During the summer a couple of tyres went, and the others looked cracked so I changed all the tyres on both locos, however they have all (but 1) broke again, and looking at the spares I have, the unused ones look okay, but I don't trust them. Does any know if Stainz tyres fit, measuring the wheels (without a strip down) the PM wheel seems to be about 0.5mm larger, so at least the Stainz tyre will not be loose - thoughts please.

Not sure if the Stainz traction tyre might be a little too wide?

I can measure the unstretched width of a Stainz tyre...
Give me a minute..

IMG_20241211_173158.jpgMeasures 3.4mm but this is brand-new, not stretched onto the rim.

Phil, many thanks, the new PM tyres are 2.97mm, and the gap on the rim to take the tyre is 3.2 mm, so it might be a 'snug fit'. but the extra stretch could remedy that ;)

If you don't have one?

I can drop one in with your other item..

A Stainz tyre was kindly donated by PhilP PhilP , and as promised my comparisons with a Playmobil tyre. The Stainz tyre is pale straw in colour, and the Playmobil tyre is black, the wheels are from a Playmobil 4010 Cargo, conclusion at the bottom:

The Stainz tyre is smaller in inside and out side diameter, but only by 1 - 2 mm, with the width of the Stainz tyre being wider, however the thickness is comparable. When fitted there seem to be very little visible difference. For the photos the tyres were fitted to the none driven bogie (easier to photograph), however for track trials the Stainz tyre is on the driven bogie, with 3 new Playmobil tyres on the other axles. A quick test run (cold and getting dark) did not identify any issues, a longer more sustained run is required, however at this stage, I am content the Stainz tyre will work with Playmobil wheels.

Thankyou for posting this, I have just ordered a second hand 4010 to play around with and it looked like the a tyre was missing in the photo. Good to know there are alternatives for replacements. Now thread drift , apologies. Looking at your photos, it looks like a slot is cut in the wheel tyre is that right ? If it is I guess it must make it easier to make tolerance wise, as 3 of the wheels seem to have a bigger gap than the other 1. And also be easier to press onto the red wheel centre ?

Yes there are splits in the wheels, but I have never investigated it, or taken the wheels off. I converted mine to 2.4 gHz RC as the original equipment has a limit range, and subject to interference:

I read your conversion , excellent stuff . I will be doing something similar as I just bought a second hand loco , no battery box or remote control. The splits don't seem to affect its performance at all.
