1st attempt at making Buildings

Evening all,

Mainly to see if its possible, I've started work on some buildings for my station. Only problem is they have to be moveable as they can't stay in the garden, annoyingly. I've started with a platform and engine shed both made using my ACAP (As Cheap As Possible) but hopefully with time, will be replaced with better buildings made from kits.

Hopefully, I'll be able to finish the assembly of the engine shed (bottom picture) once I've gone out and brought extra material along with hopefully giving both buildings a coat or 2 of primer. That said, I am currently looking for kits for Signals, Signal boxes, coal stages etc that are either cheap (ish) to buy or are simple to make. Any recommendations from those that have made them?

I like that - ACAP! From little acorns ....... I also like wood (and cardboard). They are all construction materials. More power to your elbow:thumbup:

I keep mentioning this as a scratch building material, but nobody seems to respond. I refer to PVC cladding. If I see an Everest or similar van in the neighbourhood I'm off on the scrounge. I find the valanced sections which are usually for soffits bargeboards and the like particularly good for roofs.

I've got a stash of it too Cryil. Scrounged the offcuts from the fitters that did my windows.

Good going Jonathan!

I go around the local sign makers who have loads of off cuts of the hard foam-board in 1mm to 10mm thickness. It is strong, rigid, light and easy to cut with a stanley knife and totally rot free. I use it mainly for bases but it is good for walls and roofs too.

Although I love making buildings from wood using strut and planking and shingles for the roof...it is always a worry with leaving them outside with our climate even with copious coatings of 5* preservative and matt varnish and a canopy if it can be hidden.
I have put all the wood buildings on the hard foam-board bases to stop damp from the earth creeping up.

Afternoon all,

Following from the success of the first two buildings in the gardan, I've managed to complete work on the 3rd building for the line. The carriage shed. Hopefully its more than long enough to hold the kinds of trains likely to be run on the line and unlike the engine shed, it should be more than tall enough to acccomodate them.

Hopefully, I'll be able to start work on the rest of the buildings for the line once I have saved up some more and enough track to acturley go inside the new sheds has been purchased.

Until Next time,

Jon
