Hi Richie

A huge thanks, to You and Your good lady for a very pleasent evening.

Your 'PW' is absolutely fantastic, and was the perfect example of how a garden railway can blend in with the garden.

The 3 truck is only on shed till it can be forwarded to its new home, but was so impressive on your line, that tentative agrement was also gained for a similar purchase  again at only if available at the right price.

Our visit (thanks [i'm sure ] due much to your very lovely, enthusiastic, fantastic, and superly articulate, good lady) {would send flowers but i'm sure you have that covered} also achieved, an only previously dreamed of, in the distant future 'goal')

i.e. Provisional planning approval has been granted for the todate 'No name' Wood shed, logging, mineing & mineral ore RR. to branch out from it's existing, (very confined) 'shunting and stageing' area, out on to the open plains.

There is one minor planning issue to overcome.

Thats the 'NO' Concrete, Brick or Plastic supports to be visible, (not sure where that came from)
and with a 3 foot drop from one end to the other thats going to take some creative engineering works,

Thanks again and your snow blower is even more impressive in the flesh than on the pic's

Rob

Hi Rob

Good to hear that your line has been given planning approval , hope you managed to get some ideas from my line for your layout build Rob , look forward in seeing your progress with many photo's .

Hi Richie

Tooooo many ideas, don't know where to start

But start i have, 7am today, thought it was going to rain
mainly an extension to the work bench layout i already have,
with a view to building an R3 spriral, to get it down to ground level.
Works camera on the fritz again, will take pic's when fixed.

Just priced up the timber for a 12foot long 3foot high tressle bridge in ceddar :bleh:
Might have to re-think that one.

Congrats on the 3 truck shay, lovely wife you have there
look after her, worth spoiling me thinks.

Had a play with my TE and put it by a sheet of re-inforcing mesh,
I got some dead spots similar to yours, worth trying extending the arial,
I tried a 6foot length of fm arial cable and it made quite a bit of difference.

Hi Rob
Sounds great your spiral line with a 12ft tressle bridge will look fantastic when finished . Thanks for the tip on the TE will have ago at extending the arial with one from my hi-fi unit , how did you attach the extended wire did you add it to the wire already there or did you fit it in the reciever ?

Hi Frank
From tomorrow i should be the proud owner of a West Side Lumber Shay so i can join the Shay Drivers Club now :clap:Will have to see what other locos she likes:laugh:

Looking in the Bachmamm catalogue i see the loco has DCC sound onboard but can be used on DC . Can any one tell me if this loco can be used on a DCC layout as it is out of the box or does it need a decoder fitting to go with the DCC sound ???

Hi Richie
It is DCC out of the box. I run mine on DC but as you are DCC you will get more features including extra sound options etc.

What voltage does your DCC run at, I was thinking of buying the factory fitted DCC/Sound Shay but was put off when other forum members suggested that if you run your DCC over 18v you could get problem. (see the topic in the digital section)

Having said that the analogue 3 truck I bought from Beavercreek works ok on 23v DCC.

Here it is with Logo and numbers

Hi

If i am reading the manuals right, for the 2 Truck, 3 Truck and the Heisler,
The problem with 18volts refers to the smoke unit ??

Does any one have any further knowledge, as i have just been given a matched pair of 24v transformers.

Big box (or should i say trunk:laugh:) arrived today took half an hour to get into it .

Hi Mike my line runs on DC with a Train Engineer so the loco and sound is on DC , the reason i ask is that my friends line down the road is DCC (MTS) would i be able to run the loco on that without any extra decoders ? wasn't sure if its just the sound and not the loco that was DCC .
