I can't claim credit for this, as it appeared in "Garden Rail" 2 or 3 years ago. The "Card Factory" chain of shops sell little gift boxes, containing a small pot of flowers. (I can't remember the price, but it was only a pound or two). A few blobs of paint to cover the spangles on some of the flowers, a coat of terracotta-ish paint, and you have flower tubs for your platform:

Hydrangeas come in thosew colours (and size - scale-wise).
