I have a chance to buy a Accucraft GS-4 Daylight engine and tender. The loco is in very good condition. A solid 8 maybe even 9 on the scale of 1-10. It is G scale.
What is or would be a fair price for this train?

Thanks
Todd

I thought the Accucraft GS-4 was 1:32 scale, not strictly "G". Word of caution - If you are thinking of pairing it with USA trains Daylight streamliner or Aristocraft Daylight heavyweights they will look odd as they are scaled at 1:29, sometimes included in the world of that misnomer "G". I thought about doing the same, some 15 years ago, as I had both sets of cars. I was looking at the MTH loco, also scaled at 1:32. Took a careful look at some pictures and realised they just would no look right. The car height when coupled up to the tender was way off. But if you have the Aristocraft 1:32 cars why not ? Price, what uis being asked ? Max.

At the present time passenger cars are the last thing I am concerned with. I enjoy running the trains with my grandson and the difference in 1:32 vs 1:29 is not an issue.
Just trying to find out what is a reasonable price to pay for this train.
Thanks for the info on the different cars, my guess they are next to impossible to find and if I do probably very expensive.

By 'train' do you mean locomotive? As a steam model, it is most definitely not a beginner's model by any stretch of the imagination. They are very large, and very heavy, and require 'driving' and will require large sweeping curves to run on.

The Accucraft GS4 locomotive IS most certainly Gauge 1 - 1/32nd scale. Only the Accucraft cars [the full-scale original sets VERY rare these days, the last I saw were over $12K] or MTH cars [also pretty rare] will match them. The most recent iteration by Accucraft are reasonable models of a typical smoothsider car, and are therefore incorrect, but who's looking?

It's very hard for us here to advise you meaningfully, as we have no idea of your experience, one way or another. Is there anybody in Los Angeles Live Steamers who can give you first-hand advice?

This is just the locomotive and the tender. And yes gauge 1. This is not my first live steamer. I currently own Mimi, a 3-cylinder Shay and a Roundhouse Fowler. And Los Angeles is quite a way from me. I live in Louisiana (La.) so I doubt those guys can help unless they see this post.

Again, passenger cars are the least of my worries. For now I am just trying to get an idea on what is a fair price to pay for this engine and tender.

Lousey-Anna, eh? Ah, well, seeing LA [capitalised] as your residence I can be forgiven for thinking it stood for Los Angeles.

Here in UK you'd be looking at something around £4500 - 5000 in top condition, people tend to look after these things - but they are very here in UK.

I guess that you'll have to make your one mind up for a stateside price, however, give Ryan Bednarik at Triple R Services a call and see what HE thinks. If you do, tell him I sic'd you on him.
