Just taking the opportunity to update everyone regarding the Accucraft model of Caledonia.

Production has now been booked with the factory for a finite number of locos. The eagerly awaited live steam version should be in the shops in approx February, with the new uprated electric version in approx March.

The live steam version is the first factory produced IMR loco ever offered in live steam.

The new electric version features a higher spec Pitmann gear head motor and matching top spec Accucraft gearbox, as used in previous models of the Beyer Peacocks.

Current list price for the live stem version is £1150, you should be able to find this discounted to approx £995.

Current list price for the electric version is approx £875-895, you should be able to find this discounted to approx £765 - £783.

Don't forget to allow another 2.5% on prices when the VAT goes up.

Whilst you can "never say never" this project is not likely to be repeated, so if you love Cale' either in the wonderful Manx Northern livery or the Blue this may be your last chance to get a new one from Accucraft.

For people who already own an electric Caledonia please be aware the second hand value is now far higher than the new price you paid.

I am pleased to report that a lot of modellers are "going Manx" and there are various other IMR projects going on behind the scenes at Accucraft, I'll keep you up to date with new models as fast as information is released.

Happy steamings,

John

Cheers John,
any news on the Peverel? Have the Cale' but would like another loco to go with it. Good to hear there might be some further developments.

Peveril should be with us approx November 2011 for live steam and approx December 2011 for electric versions. Just like Caledonia this loco will be as accurate as possible within the constraints of price and practical workings, you will see lots of improvements of the previous models of the Beyer Peacocks that were around a few years ago.

Further IMR developments are what I would class as slow, sure, and very intersting :admire: These things take ages for the research and design work to be done, let alone the tooling and samples, before the eventual production.

Happy steamings,

John

A bit more news regarding Caledonia.

Consideration is being given to a small special order of a few locos in 'Spring Green' also known as 'Ailsa Green' that Caledonia carried from 1967. These would be unlined, however lining can be arranged at extra cost. Both live steam and electric versions can be supplied. Please contact us quickly if this is of interest to you as the order will be finalised soon and will probably be a "once only" opportunity.

And yes personally I am very tempted to have mine in Spring Green, the late 1960's era is about the most interesting period of the IMR to me.

Happy steamings,

I doubt that I will go for the green version, not because I don't like the loco I do - I have the Tuscan red version and I think it is an excellent loco but I wondered if there might be a option without the nameplate fitted?
Several people when Caledonia first appeared asked about nameplate removal.
Extreme bravery and a sharp chisel were the only suggestions I saw at the time!

I suppose it would be posible to have the small batch of Green ones with the nameplates loose, to use the loco for "other" railways.

Interestingly we offered the option of Blue and Red ones without any trimmings for approx 12 months (in response to previous postings requesting the concept) and in that time got either 1 or zero "expressions of interest" for them (I can't exactly remember), but enough people wanted the lined and named ones for the project to go ahead. So, it looks that whilst a few people talked about the concept of wanting a "plain" one no one actually really wanted to order one.

That said if anyone wants a Green one without nameplates attached please do let us know, it is a perfectly reasonable request and we should be able to accomodate this.

Have placed my order John, putting a little towards it in the little piggy each week.

Maybe the problem was that people wanted a lined one, but without the name!
