This Way Up
After posting on my layout thread I was asked about how these coaches would cope with R1 2ft radius curves so last night I tried it out and thought a thread on the coaches might be of use for future reference.
Here's my two behind a Bachmann Lyn for scale, Lyn is effectively 15mm to the foot scale while the coaches are 16mm to the foot.
As with previous offerings from Accucraft they are lovely models with crisp detail and seating inside. The plastic isn't as tough or flexible as the LGB stuff but personally I prefer the finish as it's less plasticky.
I did find the bogies were both screwed up tight so they had no give on uneven track, undoing the screw on one bogie 1/2 a turn and 1/4 turn on the other and they run fine on my track. In the garden you may find a tiny bit more play helpful and they don't seem to rock excessively due to their reasonable weight.
Here's the coach on R1, it does just fit on the track but derails about 50% of the time when it hits the joints as it's really graunching on R1.
and closer, you can see the centre of the end ends up over the outside rail.
I turned it over and this is what is causing the restriction. If you really want to run them on R1 then you'd have to cut out the bit lined in red to give a few extra mm swing but the couplings are going to be right on the limit.
This shot shows there's a few mm before they'd hit the footsteps but it'd be enough if you really wanted them on R1.
I've just got the new book with all the drawings so I'm going to have a look if there's any more detail that could be added.
