Hi all.
Looking for some measurments from the Accucraft Ruby type loco or any others from the same basic design using the bigger 1/2 inch cylinders.
I need to know the throw of the crank, the exact distance from the centre of the axle to the centre of the crank pin.
I also need to know the distance from the centre of the piston rod to the centre of the piston valve rod above it.
If anyone can quickly wave a ruler over these for me I would be most gratefull, millimeters is better but imperial is ok.

If they are what I want for my home build I will buy a kit (or used loco) and sell off the parts not needed like the frames, wheels, boiler and other bits on here.
Cheers
Rob

[align=center]This sounds serious, 1/2inch cylinders, thats fractional horsepower, them cardboardboxes looked big under yer arms on Saturday,

Re:ccucraft Ruby type loco dimensions

Well "the plan" is to make a 7/8th Lynton and Barnstaple Manning and Wardle 2-6-2, it will be a big girl and run on 45mm track. Got the frames sorted, the boiler is designed and should be done early next year, as will be the wheels in cast iron. I think the Accucraft cylinders will be too short a stroke so I will have to get some made from scratch. Bodywork will be an etch too, so if anyone else wants one they will be able to buy most of it from the same suppliers I used.

Trouble is that steam motors are very good but then you lose the "chuff chuff" sound effects. Working Joy valve gear built to scale isn't impossible and I also like the challenge of getting it right :D

Re:ccucraft Ruby type loco dimensions

Hope this helps. The center to center distance of the piston rod and the valve is 15 mm . This includes the gasket material used. The piston rod is 3 mm diameter and the piston valve diameter is 5 mm.

The stroke of the cylinder is .700 inches . I would think the center to center of the crank and axle would be .350 inches. ( .700 /2 = .350 ) Not easy to measure this. These measurements are from the new Porter ( Ruby # 5 with the 1/2 inch cylinders ) .

Many thanks for that Charles, as I suspected they are just too small for what I need.

Re:ccucraft Ruby type loco dimensions

Hi Rob
looking at the cylinder size 10 1/2 inches in diameter x 16 inches equates to about
53/64 inches [.8281 dec / 21mm ] x 77/64 inches [1.2264 dec 30.5 mm] in 7/8ths.
these are approximate calculations as maths is not my strong point!!
Shaun.

Re:ccucraft Ruby type loco dimensions

Hi Shaun.
Thanks for that. I have drawings for the Manning and wardle, I just wondered if there was anything available "off the shelf" that was close enough to the piston throw to be of use.
Unfortunatly, although only a little shorter, the Accucraft one's are just too much of a compromise.
Cheers
Rob
