Accucraft-to-Roundhouse couplings

Hello everyone

Pending a Roundhouse arriving in April, I was wondering whether anybody has experience using accucraft chopper couplings with roundhouse and how this is done. This is because I already have an edrig and may be getting some IOM stock. Would you need to change the roundhouse couplers to the chopper type or can they be made to connect?

Thanks
Pete

Is it that you simply unscrew the small hook coupler from the chopper then use chains/paperclip with the other little hook on the coupling main body? I think I get it now!

I just use a chain. I take the chopper off the Accucraft coupling so that you're left with just the buffer and then use the hook that is already there.
You can leave the chopper in place but it sometimes get's in the way and tangles with the chain.

I take the roundhouse coupling off and drill the bufferbeam for the Accu choppers - done quite a few now, but the VoR's are a pain as there is a big lump of brass behind the front bufferbeam - have to mill a hole for the bolts with the dremel, not a tidy job!

Oh, and IoM height only just fits.....the coupler base actually stands a bit proud of the beam which I don't like (I use the normal height) but the diehards here won't have it any other way!

Thanks Neil, and yes as we all know there is only the one true way in this world  even my IP Simplex now has choppers at IOM height, just like the carriage shed shunter at Port Erin! (And in case any one is worried, Jock has now been re-gauged to 45mm.......)

Happy steamings,

John
