The Hunslet 2-6-2 looks tempting as does Mannin however sadly I do not expect to be able to afford either for a while yet :'(

If you go to Shildon you`ll see the real one....

I did say I'd only buy another live steam if it was W&L and ideally No 14. Oh dear, really need to buy a house with a garden first! Any one have any idea how many batches they might do and when?

Hunslet 2-6-2 looks very tempting to add to Countess, Pickering coaches and unbranded W&L goods stock. But, it would be a lot of money once the R/C gear is added. Would have to do a bit of serious trading on ebay of the remnants of model car collection to do it. Ridden behind it a few times at the W&L, out of ticket awaiting overhaul now isn't it ?

What are the correct coaches for it to pull ? I seem to remember on here someone suggesting the LGB Zillertalbahn (is that the right spelling ?) ones would do. Or might Accucraft or another maker (IP perhaps ?) think of doing the ex' Eastern Block ones or even the Sierra Leone coaches to go with Joan.

I passed on a Joan last year but might have to look for a 2nd hand one now to have a nice W&L theme going. One can dream.

Max.

Hi Max,
I run my WLLR Joan with 4 x four-wheeled LGB coaches and when my  Hunslet 2-6-2T No. 14 arrives I am sure I it will look good with them too.
Of course you could also use the WLLR Pickering coaches but I keep mine for the Earl and Countess.
Cheers!

The problem I'm having is choosing what livery to order the Hunslet in. Red is probably my favourite but I also liked it in black. The rivet counter in me is keen on the blue though as it ran with the Pickerings in this livery, they hadn't arrived when it was red. I've also got a rake of LGB zillers and I've turned one of my LGB bogie coaches into representation of the Mavs so I could run it with them. I've got Joan, Countess, Dougal, the Diema and 85 on the way - I just need to have a go at building 699!

The price of new Accucraft models is a big deterrent. The price of the electric Mannin is over 3 times what my Caledonia and Viking models cost me. I would like both Mannin and the 2-6-2 but don't have anywhere near that money.

The Hunslet is £1700 in Trackshack and comes lined and fitted with radio control. Have a look at the price of some of the Roundhouse or Regner stuff and you'll see this compares pretty well. I think the price of the basic models is now rather off putting but for a premium model, which the Hunslet will be, it's not too bad. £1700 is not cheap by any means buf it's all relative and if you want one, which I do, it's the price you have to pay.

I had noticed the price of the basic range is creeping up away from the budget price they used to be. Making it more difficult when our younger members ask about having their own steam loco and we tell them you need £6/700 now for a new one...
The Hunslet I think is expensive, but if its coming with lining, that's easily £200 on top to have it done in the UK, so isn't that far away from Countess money now. I really want a blue one now, as it looks nice, I don't have any blue loco's and the girlfriend likes it too - win!

That completes - I think - the Accucraft locomotives that replace the Pearse range of the W&L. My Pearse locos have been around so long that I´ve just had a major overall for all of them, one after another. But they´re still some of my favourites on the K&NWLR.

Apart from the L&M E.R. Calthrop/J.B. Earle that is currently available from Roundhouse.

Didn't run on the W&L, although it is the same gauge. I don't think it would have got round Mill curves!

Must have been why I didn´t buy it. Come to think of it, at that weight, the famous bridge collapse would probably have happened earlier. ::)

Doh moment! Should have read the post properly, just read it as Pearse locos, not W&L Pearse loco's.

The Roundhouse version is more curve friendly than the original Pearse, don't know what compromises have been made to achieve this but I suspect bits of frame cut away to allow the trailing truck to swing more. I've vowed not to get one until Roundhouse call last orders, but willpower in the face of attractive loco's is not one of my strengths.

Yes, I like the idea of getting one too as it would fit in well with my W&L stuff but it's just a bit too big for my line.
