Accucraft Whitcomb diesel....

Just had this pic in one of Glendale's news emails - those of you into US stuff probably all know about it, but I'd not seen it before - even though I normally try to stay Euro, there is something about this that I REALLY like....

Mind you, it's over £800, so not this month..... ;)

Yeah Jon, it is a very nice little (!!!) diesel, been watching this for a few weeks now. It looks like an Aristo centre-cab that was brought up on the wrong side of the tracks crossed with the hulking Bachamann 44 tonner! .....Very butch.
Might pass this across the missus's bow for next birthday (I wish!!).......I am sure that the BCRR could do with one of these!

In that livery, it looks like it would make a good track maintenance loco alongside a yellow LGB TCL, especially as the headlights look very similar....

One thing to beware, the specs quote a 1.2 metre minimum RADIUS - so no R1s then (or even R2s).... :@

I normally go for european/african narrow gauge too, except the odd but of US style inetrurban, but for some reason I like this too...

Those without £800 to spend on what's undoubtedly a very nice piece of brasswork (ie me), could maybe use the trucks from a bachmann GE diesel with a scratch build body, might be worth salvaging the original running plate to simplify construction. Overall dimensions for the Accucraft loco are about 8mm narrower than the GE, very similar length, assuming it's quoted over coupler faces, and quite a bit less on the height - I 'd guess maybe 162-165m to the cab roof - so it'd fit in better with nonUS NG stock.

Hmm...

Had a quick look on t'internet for anything useful plans-wise, and didn't turn up anything useful, but did find this Whitcomb end cab 48/50t, which I like even more. Think it reminds me of a diecast loco I had as as kid..

The Accucraft website gives a little bit of the history, it's a might tempting beastie but at that sort of money, although in brass it's worth every bit and makes LGB look expnsive, it's way outside my piggy bank :love::love::love::love:

I want one but will have to save up, at least with the smaller US electric locos Accucraft make regular batches so will be easily available unlike the UK models.
