Hi
I am taking an interest in the Accucraft WW1 Baldwin 4-6-0.
I understand it only comes in a manual version but would prefer it to be Radio controlled.
I have read somewhere it can be radio controlled but is a tight fit; can any one tell me or direct me to any information how it was done.

Micheal. Have a look at some of the video's on the Summerlands Chuffer WD Baldwin page http://www.summerlands-chuffer.co.uk/wd-baldwin/4577510966 Roy Wood's WD Baldwin has R/C on the regulator.
I'll be rather envious if you get one of these...I rather like them ;)

If it is like their "Lyn" (piston valve ?) it should be able to be controlled by the reverser lever alone for both forwrd and reverse as well as speed, in either direction. Just crack open the regulator a quarter turn and then let the R/C connected reverser do the rest. It cannot move if it is not "in gear".

Some people here are a bit sceptical about its controllability by doing that way but it works fine on my layout, even with a 4% gradient, up and down.
Max.

There was an article on installing R/C just after it first appeared, in either Garden Rail or SMT, can't remember which :(

It was in SMT - I did one the same for someone, not that hard, jus have to cut a chunk out of the inside of the bunker. Scary on someone else's loco!

These have proper valvegear by the way, not a reversing valve so need 2 channel.

Here`s mine, two channel and room for a crew too. I can send you some pictures to show what goes where if you like.

Thank you everyone for your help.
I been watching those film clips John and they just keep the scratch iching. I still got the Bagnall to finnish.
I have seen the article on converting it to R/C Doug but at that time I wasn't interested in live steam but Iam capable like Neil of chopping the bunker up; where did you put your batteries Neil.
If you could post some more pictures of your conversion Mossala I would appricate it; I do like you cab extension, I was thinking of doing the same.

Hi Mike - I can't actually recall where the batteries went, either in a tank or the bunker....sorry. I followed the article in 16mm today closely, it was well written and accurate so if you can find a copy of that it will guide you well. I did this about 4 years ago and my middle aged memory doesn't bring it all back :-[ I do recall the loco wasn't happy on my LGB R3 curves, the bogie wheels were hitting the cylinders, but as it was new and someone else's property I didn't try to alter it at all.

It ran very well indeed though, if it hadn't had the bogie issue I would have bought one myself. I got a 'Lyn' - and it also has bogie issues! :'( It'll have to go I think. :'( :'( :'(

That's a very neat conversion - well done!

I managed to fit everything in the bunker on mine - micro servos for regulator and reverser, with a chunk cut out of the bunker and a custom two-servo mount. The regulator servo was flat on the bunker floor, reverser servo vertical.

I removed the reversing lever as it had too much slop in the system, and bolted on an extender to the reverser bar using U-section brass. It can then be reverted to manual control if necessary...

The battery pack is two 2-cell AAA rechargables, which means it can fit one on each side. Not a lot of room spare but it can be done.

I'll post photos if anyone is interested?
