Adventures in 7/8ths

There's only one I can blame for this, Steph! Thank you :)

After seeing Stephs lovely models on here and another forum I kept thinking they'd be so nice to do something inspired by the Portesfoote & Bunting Light Railway, (created in drawings by Peter Barnfield).

I also thought I could make some alternative buildings to give my Camberwick layout a third possible identity!

So Steve invited me down to his coal fired steam day and there on a paste table were some exquisite IoM coaches and a very nice 7/8ths train too. These all belonged to a very nice chap called Raif who does some development work for another manufacturer.

After a very pleasant day and several chats with Raif he mentioned me might have a few kits spare, he created them purely for himself and to help out a friend with a young modellers group so they will never be sold as kits by him. So thanks to the amazing generosity so common in our hobby I ended up at his place and with a box of kits for the cost of the parts plus a donation to the air ambulance.
Here are the three wagons

The nice coupling method, looks good but will need a tool with a special end to make this work if I exhibit it!

Here's the open wagon parts, beautifully cut by laser.

and about an hour later, including drying time! Wheels are from Mikes models.

The fit of the parts is so good that the solebars are just slotted in for now and will be removed for painting so I can spray the body as one piece. The bearings are eyelets!

So I'm hooked and once these are done there's a couple of locos drawn up :)

That's a lovely little truck and very well detailed considering the material used. It looks too good to paint. Nice one!

Well as I liked the realistic couplings so much I thought I'd try and make them easier to operate with as it was difficult to get hold of the hook to uncouple. My intention is to glue a piece of thin wire, formed as below, so that it hangs down near vertical under the hook and can be grabbed with a pair of tweezers or even a magnet on a stick if I can find some steel wire. Just saves having to get the fingers in to uncouple but still working on coupling up quickly.
I want the wire to be thin enough that it doesn't make the hook hang at a un-natural angle.
