Advice needed - LGB Heidi sound installation....?

Has anyone on here had their RhB Heidi apart? Having just got a non-sound version (20271) with factory MTS, I have sourced a Massoth S to add sound to it, but I've got some questions over the speaker installation. Incidentally I can't find an exploded parts diagram for this loco (or it's factory-sound version, the 20272), on the Champex-Linden database or anywhere else for that matter, anybody got a link to one?

Basically, I've got the loco apart (lifting body off chassis, motor/gearbox and all running gear is still in place) and there appears to be a location for a speaker in the chassis, just forward of the gearbox- however it is covered by a plastic plate (held down by 4 small screws) which also forms part of the boiler support forward of the side tanks. Removing this plate exposes a speaker grill with a round speaker location that looks like it is designed to take one of the ultra-flat speakers with the transparent (mylar?) cone, which I have one of here ready to use - BUT even with this ultra-thin speaker in place you can't then refit the cover plate, which you have to do otherwise (a) you lose the boiler supports and (b) the back of the speaker is actually visible under the boiler when the body is refitted. What am I missing? Does the factory-sound version have a different cover plate that allows the speaker to fit? I could probably cut away enough of the plate to allow the speaker to fit while still retaining the boiler supports, but I'm wary of doing this if there is something else that I should be doing instead....

Anybody have any useful ideas or relevant experience?
Thanks,
Jon.

Thanks Paul - yes, I'm coming to that conclusion - what I'd like to know is how the factory-sound version looks, but as I mentioned I can't find anything about it or even one of the exploded diagrams.....

In case anyone else has any ideas, here are some pics of the situation....

First, the body removed, showing the square plate with boiler supports - the supports are where the front of the side tanks come up to.

Then, the same area with the plate removed - showing an obvious speaker grille underneath.....

.....which is a perfect fit for a Massoth-supplied ultra-thin speaker......

...... which, when in place, won't allow the cover plate to be refitted without carving most of it away!

Anyone have a factory-sound version and can tell me how LGB did it? I even thought about whether the speaker is supposed to fit UNDER the grille facing upwards, but this is impossible as the gearbox is in the way.

As you may notice in the pics, there is a separate square clip-in piece to the cover plate at the front (removed in one of the pics) but even that doesn't seem to help....

Paul - can you recall what type and size of speaker you used in yours? I assume you put it in the obvious place and just cut the plate down to fit? I'm OK with doing this if it is the only way, but I don't want to cut it and then find out there is another solution!

Modell-Land seem to have tried to make up their own parts diagram so I'm guessing LGB dont have one. Maybe you could ask them about the speaker issue, they might know.

I noticed they have the same part you already have, described as a speaker grill. The part number is 20271-M189. Maybe there is another moulding that allows more space for the speaker, however if there is Modell-Land don't seem to list it.

Sorry this is not much help.

Jon, I used the ESU speaker which is close to what you have used in size. I assumed there was an alternative moulding but it doesn't make sense to have the square panel removable then. Like you say it would be interesting to compare to a factory sound one.
I might get chance to have a quick look at mine later in amongst other jobs.

Thanks for trying, chaps - Cliff, my experience of trying to get answers to queries from Modell-Land is a 100% failure rate, they are good for orders but dreadful at communication, even when I've sent messages in German (via Google Translate, my own German is pretty much limited to "Zwei grosses Bier bitte!").
Paul, if you do get the chance to take a look at your Heidi without too much hassle, it would be very greatly appreciated.
As usual, what seems at first like it ought to be a very quick and simple install becomes very much more complicated.
Just to ask the original question again, does anyone on here have either a Heidi OR a Thusis with factory-installed sound?

Jon.
