An old box-car becomes a shed

I have been given a couple of 'toy train sets' each with 3 or 4 wagons. They are really toy-like and don't run well. I had hacked one of the boxcars for bits on a loco I was building and had the 'shell' leftover. So it became a stationary workmen's store.
I started with this blue shell. (The roof had gone to a loco.)

A cut a couple of holes for some windows and used a plastic 'peg basket' from the $2 shop for the window frames. They are pretty 'chunky' but this is a bash, and I wasn't going to spend hours making up some styrene ones. (I noticed ge-rik used a plastic badminton racquet recently which looked better, but I haven't found one yet)

I curved a bit a styrene for the roof and made corrugated iron in my usual way from aluminium baking trays and a paper corrugator ( see https://www.gscalecentral.net/threads/another-hebel-goods-shed.229363/ )
It also formed the doors. Then a quick spray with grey undercoat and a dusting of brown spray quickly brushed over, a couple of old sleepers under it, and it's done. I even tried a broken window effect. (I must bed it into the ground better. I'll glue a rock inside it to hold it down in the wind too.)

Looks the real business Greg. Perfect use for a Van that does not quite make the grade as a runner.

Those windows look great, Greg. Every bit as good as my badminton racquet version and actually a bit neater as you seem to have cut the apertures to fit them. My apertures were cut before I found the racquet.

Convincing looking bash making good use of what might otherwise be discarded.

Great use of what could of been just junk,,,,there`s a use for everything never throw anything away as it will come in one day:p:D

Lovely job....looks like it was there all the time.
Another of your project from odds and ends that comes up trumps.

Not meant as a criticism Greg but....possibly spray with a matt varnish just to take the shine off?

And in a few years time perhaps it will look like this one.Railway May 09 015 (Large).jpg

Now that is something to aim for. Too much detail for me to try.

Good point. Pictures always show up the problems don't they? I have never used matt spray, so will be a learning curve for me. I remember someone mentioning using baby powder to reduce shine????? Or maybe I'll just let nature do the weathering.

Nature should do the job just fine, bit late for the Talc solution. But you could try it on the next one.

There was me 'hoping' it was a 12" to the foot, and a source of box-cars would be mentioned..:cry:

Nah, they are all being restored back to running condition now!
