The loco dates from 1968, and here are photos of the loco and the train set it was issued with. Some sets had aluminium track as well ......I had some along with the loco :-at the time it was £17. A nice find. Alyn

Paul I have one like yours as well

just looked at loco it's a bull with a nose ring, loco came like it

Ps I have the boxcar from the set as well but not the wagon, detail on boxcar is far less than modern versions I have and underframe is different

On early issues (the ones with small loop couplings) of wagons, coaches, and other rolling stock the wheel flanges are slightly deeper. At the same time the R1 points had a deeper frog and the point rail was in six sections. Later track there were four rail sections and the frog not as deep.

wish i had the 2040 set, one of the few loco's I dont have

Hi, Tim, three very nice sets, that are now hard to come by.Very good prices as well.

At one time I had over eighty (yes that is right 80) starter sets. I have stripped them down for sale over the years as the original box is too large to post through our local post office and bidders WILL NOT pay for couriers (too expensive).

Actually, there is little demand for early LGB. I limit bidding to Australian addresses as I found over the years that those outside Australia are spoiled with their indigenous postage costs and will not pay Australia Post shipping rates. I doubt these sets will sell as I have listed them several times with plenty of interest but no takers, so most likely they will be broken down into component pieces (actually more rewards in selling piecemeal but I do really hate to break up a set).

It's getting the same to get stuff from germany, most stuff from there comes unboxed as the shipping costs for the lgb box make it expensive, it's not the weight it's the size of the thing, take the locos out and ship on there own they weigh very little, I hope you get a buyer for the 2040 if u werent in oz I'd bite ur hand off

Just out of idle curiosity, what would it cost to courier up-hill from Oz to the UK?

i had a radio shipped from oz to uk, the import charges crippled me

Phil,
this is where the curiousity ends. A 4kg package is $120.00 and a 5kg package is $140.00. As I said earlier, Australia Post shipping is very expensive.
I can receive a package from London for less than posting the same item to my next suburb less than 1 kilometre away.

In some ways Ouch!
Then, if you think about how far it is coming..
Presume the costs down there are for (either) someone to carry it across the interior. :@
Or to fly/boat it round the coast.
Presuming I am right, that you all live on the edge?
