Re:Any LGB 2017D (Stanz with tender) Pics

the very 1st thing i did to mine, was to link the two together, for picking up power.. i added a second motor to the tender, (seeing as it had the skates, bullets ect) and fitted them with mts2 chips, and a lgb euro sound unit..it was planed serise off upgrades, from a basic, bare bones single motor loco, to a twin motored, shared pickup sound equipet ,digical loco.. its a good loco to own, and im happy with the performansce off mine, though sometimes, i wonder if haveing 2 motors is worth it..

Re:Any LGB 2017D (Stanz with tender) Pics

THe 2015/7s were real workhorses. Especially when electrically linked. I own two sets, one is an OLD 2015 in KPEV/Prussian green.

The other...a bit of a project. I have a US 2017 type that I have all the Euro bits to make into a 2015, along with a "matching" tender. Both are later clam type motorblocks, easier to make DCC ready.

When I say matching, they run well together, but one is painted LG&B and the other is in LGB circus markings.

Either one day both will be painted........or sold.

Re:Any LGB 2017D (Stanz with tender) Pics

while not too british -i think they would need longer tanks, a bit of work on the boiler smoke box and stack, and of course perhaps another driver to make an 0-6-0
i have...
omg,
the green prussian,
the black prussian,
the 'fruity' maroon,
an 'easy to spot' yellow Lake George and Boulder-striped non sound version, US style
and the 2017 (recovered form 20,000 leagues under the mississippi-and lovingly re-animated by me after being duped on ebay)
which i have switched over to euro style pilot and stack and lamp-(those US style pilots are useless for shunting and running reverse)

simply, i think these are possibly the single best loco set you can have to start, or to simply run and run, with good pulling power, and easy maintenance

put a bit of weight into the loco's steam chests and side thanks and it will rival the stainz-diitto the tender

i think why i like them is they are so forgiving of rough and tumble track and points, bad weather, being accidently knocked, run well in reverse, have a reverse light, and while they must fly to do so, they smoke quite nicely too-and they look fine on R1's
they really do remind me, in some way, of porters and early mine engines on this side of the pond

it a shame the new ones have gone up so much and no longer have a motorized tender as part of the price

Re:Any LGB 2017D (Stanz with tender) Pics

I use mine as the first loco around the track to check for leaves stones etc it is the most reliable loco ive got in other works if she wont go round nothing will... here she is after a quick colour change (she is finished now) but cant find recent photos and the video below is when i first got her for £30 from the (Colchester collection) pulling 7 jackson sharps fast forward to 5 mins and you should find her ... if there is one loco i would never part with it is her Tony

Wonderful machines, especially if the tender is wired to the loco. Will pull anything.

Re:Any LGB 2017D (Stanz with tender) Pics

You have hook and loop on the loco and just a loop on the tender which can come apart on uneven (read rough) Track ... i will change it to a solid drawbar as like others ive wired the two together so they dont seperate anyway i also going to fit a floating footplate and as you can see ive removed the back wall of the cab other wise the fireman cant get to the tender :rolf:... last thing i will do is fill in the original door groves to the cab sides

Is the coupling between loco and tender a standard LGB coupling? Can they be closer coupled a la Franki S?

Cheers

The couplings on my locos are the LGB type supplied with a new tender. This just drops into the loop on the tender.

These are modified Stainz train set locos.

Super group of loco's, love the way they are all different in some way. The Stainz looks great with a tender.
Nice one
Kev

That hook looks just like the one used on the Frank S

This may not qualify as a still photo, but I thought it would help.
