Anybody else got one of the Trainline DEV V3 Diesels yet?

So far I don't think I've seen any mention on GSC of anyone actually having one of TL45's new V3 diesels? Certainly no-one has reviewed one yet on here.
Well, I'm going to be the first to stick my head over the parapet and say "yes, I have one!" ;)
Not one of the red ones, in either analogue or digital form, but one of the unpainted green "budget edition" ones done (apparently as an exclusive batch) for Modell-Land. Mark (Muns) has just supplied me with an LS sound decoder to go in it, so I'm going to try and get the install done very soon - I'll post the process here, with some piccies, when I do it.
What's it like? Frankly, not great - I paid about £140 for mine, and let's just say I'm VERY glad I didn't pay more for one of the imported red ones. I'll post a detailed review soon, but I'm afraid that Trainline have got a long way to go to catch up with LGB in the loco market - I hope they improve quickly and learn some lessons from the V3, because I REALLY want one of their Harz Mallets when they come out, but it will have to be a lot better than the V3 before it is worth what they are going to be charging for it.
More soon....

Jon.

Hmmmm, I was pondering on buying one of these, I await your words with baited breath, whatever baited breath is !

I've had a good look at them and given purchase serious consideration but didn't like the £400 price tag for a sound-equipped DCC version.
An honest owner review would be most welcome.

Full (and hopefully honest) review coming soon!
Modell-land basic (unlit) green one at about £140, plus Massoth LS decoder at about £120, plus maybe £20 more for sundry bits (speaker, lights, paint etc), = a full sound and DCC one for about £280 plus a little time to do the install (and paint it if desired), which is very little more than current asking price for the analogue red version - and much less than the £400 for a factory-chipped one!

That sounds like a more palatable figure

Latest edition of gartenbahn magazine has a review of the aforementioned trainline loco

So what were their impressions of it in the review?

Jon.

im not sure ,im fluent in reading german photos, but the words...:nerd:
the photos show a motorblock very simnilair to a lgb one, with skates, and bullet pick ups

Short review of the DEV with DCC and sound:

[*]Motor ? it appears comparable to the LGB 2-axle motor block. It pulls well without hesitation. I have used it with small consists (3-5 cars) with no problems.[*]Sound ? this is my favorite aspect of this loco. It sounds more like a diesel truck, changing gears as it speeds up. Two horn sounds, bell sound, announcement whistle. Speaker is in the front grill.[*]Lighting ? this version has seven lights, which includes a cab light that comes on when the loco is stopped. [*]Appearance ? it is a plain little loco. What you get is what you see in the photos. It is not as detailed as the small LGB locos, such as the Kof. Paint is good without overspray. There is no engineer or detail in the cab.[*]Add-ons ? the holes for the brake hoses are not deep enough, so I will need to drill them out. Also, one of the hoses is molded in two pieces, and it looks like it when installed. There is some plastic flashing on the stanchions for the front steps that needs to be removed. [*]Price ? at $540 USD, it is pricey for what you get ? a nice running, but plain little locomotive with limited details. Allscale

That's an awful lot of money for that little loco
