I took my Mikado to Marty Cozad's open house in Nebraska City, Nebraska. He has it every year, this was the 9th. Live steam attendance was real good, not as many battery guys though. Marty had made a new elevated track for the live steamers and it was well used. I also drove down to Richard Snyder's, about 20 miles south. He has a nice layout in the country, in a quiet setting. Weather was outstanding and I had a great time. Joe Hall took the pictures of me with my Mike. It pulled even more of the yellow cars later, had no problems with it at all.

Great idea having a section just for the live steamers. Your Mike looks mighty fine pulling the old varnish. I have always wondered about getting one of the Aristo live-steam Mikes as an intro to live-steam on my layout but I fear that the inclines may be too much for it. Well if she did get up the incline it would need some pretty quick work on the throttle as she would tear down the gradient on the other side of the layout!

Nice piccies Jerry

i thought the same looking at the pictures. ideally live steam really needs a nice height, dead level large loop. from the pics of your layout mike i reckon live steam would be less than relaxing!

Nice pics of your Mikado in steam Jerry  Do like those Rio Grande coaches are they the AMS ones they would look nice with my live steam Bumble Bee

Glade to hear you had a good run with the Mike. I hope to make it next year and bring the Mike and the new K4 Later RJD

Really?? I run coal fired live steam on a ground level line in a small garden. The main steam up area is about 18in off the ground and parts of the line are in cutting and tunnel. As long as the track is properly laid so that one does not get derailments then all should be fine...

A friend of mine has one of these converted to run on Propane gas using a trailer car. He had this locomotive in steam for nearly six hours. He has a Goodall valve and would top up water and oil at regular intervals . We sat an ate lunch and watched it run for an hour without interruption. A nice locomotive , even if the sound system is a little strange !!!!!
