Aristocraft Dash-9

Help! I have just unboxed a new Dash-9. It was in the loft hidden for a couple of years? It ran fine on test rollers and all worked OK. I then took it to the club and ran it on the track, all was fine then I think the track had a "gap" and it stopped dead. After some jiggling of the track power came back BUT the small lights on the sides, cab and steps do not work anymore?? Does anyone have a circuit diagram for the main board? it is marked with DS-01? The only working lights are the front and rear which still follow the direction but will not go off? they just go dim, could be a short somewhere. The smoke works fine as do the motors. Very disappointing but a stunning loco. A diagram would be helpful as do not want to strip it completely. Help...

Before you spend money have you checked the lighting switch? Sorry if it seems too obvious a point but we have all, at some time, overlooked the simple answers expecting the issue to be more complicated. ;)

Guys thanks for the replies, I am still surprised at how this happened. The board does not seem to have much electronics on it,? I have emailed Greg for a spare but I will carry on until I find it.

Thanks Again

Turn the light OFF on the present board.. Some (all?) are LED, and if there is a board fault, it could damage the light-boards in the loco..
Better safe than sorry..

Greg, yes I agree and I have ordered two from the local Maplin store. They have them in stock now but I have just had a heart attack!!!!! Yes did not expect that. I am sat up in hospital sending this email, as Victor Melldrew would say "I don't believe it".

Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

I *know* Maplin prices are a bit steep, but...

ATB for a speedy return to form.

Guys, I am back home and feeling OK! Stent in right Coronary Artery! No more work for me and loads of tablets. Anyway I collected the regulators from Maplin on the way home!! I have had a bit of a rest, and I have fixed the DASH-9 problem. It was an intermittent joint/plated through hole on the main board where D3 and D6 are fitted. Thanks to the drawings from Greg I was able to trace it. I have attached some photos. As usual intermittent faults are the worst to find.

So that's good news - and more good news!

Guys, I have bought myself a present and I would like to share the photos. I intend to fit an ESU sound decoder into each unit. However they do make me smile as I look at them. The detail is so precise and so well made. These are new just out of the box and cost a lot! but you cannot take it with you.
