Aristocraft r/c problem

My son has just bought a live steam Aristocraft 0-4-0 switcher. It seems a very nice loco and runs very steadily round the railway. However, the radio control doesn't work and before I start taking the thing to pieces and try to work out what the problem might be, does anyone have any advice about trouble-shooting or previously known problems?
I tend to favour 2.4GHz systems these days but I don't know if it can be retrofitted (until I take the tender apart).
As far as I can see the live steam loco is very similar to the electric version and I presume the r/c system will be the same.

try this enquiry on the Live Steam Forum at the Aristo-Craft Forum.  There are more folks over there with this loco than here at present.
 
Thanks for the tip, Alan. I'll try the r/c forum first as it's common to a lot of locos I believe, not just live steam.
 
I'm glad you got some help and advice on the Aristo Forum.   I know it is not sorted yet, hopefully Bachmann will  do so, but I felt that you might get the results you needed.
 
Well I ended up on the Aristocraft live steam forum like you suggested Alan, and got some useful tips but nothing that helped me solve the problem for myself. I had a useful chat with Brian at Glendale Junction and then spoke to a couple of guys at the service department at Bachmann UK. Both very helpful. So the end result is that I shall send the tender back to Bachmann on Monday rather than open it up and invalidate the warranty!
I'll let you know what they come up with, just for the record.
