Ok, it's not G scale, but anybody even remotely interested in steam should enjoy these pages: https://translate.google.com/translate?sl=it&tl=en&js=y&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&u=http%3A%2F%2Fferroviefelettane.it%2F&edit-text=

Thanks to lotsasteam over on MLS for pointing us in the direction.

Can see the Home Page - impressive photo - but can't drill down into the site >:(

Strange, it works for me. Open the original page and drill from there. http://ferroviefelettane.it/

Ah, that last link works - trouble is the only thing I could understand was the 1euro coin used for size comparison!

Try plugging the url into Google Translate yourself. Perhaps it doesn't work, because I'm logged in... I'm speed reading about his latest project (In costruzione), where he is building a fully functioning 1:10 model of a steam shovel. I've never heard of "Selective Laser Melting", but it seems that it works layer by layer, like a 3D printer, but it melts the metal.

Google translate has taken the home page and translated it - i.e. its no longer part of the original website so links dont work.

Strange, it worked for me, but after clicking my own link it won't switch to any links. however, I can right-click and choose "Open link in new tab" and that sort of works.

The page detailing the construction of the 'Big Boy' is stunning. Some skill that man has.

Brilliant - I wish I had that skill and patience..... ;D

Now all it needs (the digger) is a remote controlled 1:10 operator!!
Awesome! ;D ;D ;D

Yep pretty much exactly like that :) Believe it's commonly know as SLS over here (Selective Laser Sintering), starts with a large tray and powder is layed down a layer at a time while a laser follows and melts and fuses the power at specific points into the shape of the part.

Some really impressive stuff, that steam crane is incredible. I wouldn't like to think how long all the CAD work took, let alone building the thing :o

So, all I need is a 3D scanner..
Laser cutter..
Sintering machine..
CNC lathe and mill..
3D printer..
CAD workstation (and software)

Some 'basic hand-tools' .. and the world is my oyster!! ;) ;) ;)

And, don't forget a couple of operators of the right persuasion to operate everything! ;)
