Try Bachmann Service (Service@bachmann-europe.co.uk) They did supply me with a gearbox for a Railtruck; if they have the part, they'll sell it to you, but you may have to send them more than one email to remind them. I'm currently waiting for another Railtruck part. It helps (if you have the instruction sheet) to tell them the part number - failing that, send them a pic of the broken bit and the model number of the loco.

Hi Carl.

IF you write/email to Bachmann tell them its the 'Columbia' 2 4 2 loco it is one of their early models and there may be some difficulty as a result.

Meanwhile have a look at the Trainweb (George Scheyer's?) page on the loco

http://www.trainweb.org/girr/tips/tips4/columbia_tips.html

I think there were rumours that it may be re-issuied though is likely to have a better gear train!

To be honest it's likely to be standard size gear - I doubt Bachmann would go to the trouble of having a non-standard size designed and produced for such a cheap model.

To specify a suitable replacement gear, you need to measure its diameter in mm and the number of teeth to calculate a measurement called the Module
http://www.khkgears.co.jp/en/gear_technology/pdf/module.pdf
You'll also need to know the shaft diameter and gear width, and whether its a spur gear (parallel teeth) or a worm gear (slanted teeth).

I've had good success sourcing replacement gears for models in various scales, from online model car/plane/boat shops, component suppliers for robots, ebay, and dedicated gear suppliers/manufacturers.

The last G scale gears I needed were to repair an LGB Toytrain Porter. If I remember correctly these came from http://www.gscalecentral.net/www.motionco.co.uk < Link To www.motionco.co.uk as complete worm & wheel sets.

As mentioned previously - Bachmann USA and Europe - they haven't got them. See my thread "US locos" from a short time back and the helpful replies there.
