Bachmann Big Haugler still a torch

Hi all,
Several weeks ago I made a post about my Bachmann Big Hauler being nothing but an expensive torch (with sound). I received some great responses and received a replacement RC controller from a kind member. Unfortunately nothing would work other than the torch/sound. A visit to an established model railway shop (they custom build loco's O Gauge etc) also failed to get a result, but they could confirm the motor was in working order. They removed a gear so I could have a free roller.
Not what I had anticipated but at least it will move with a push (ha,ha).
What to do next! Well I've started to paint the torch.

Like the painting. I have two (working off one R/C). I vaguely remember your post but cannot remember the outcome. You probably know there were too frequencies - 40 and 27 - could you just wire direct to the motor via a simple switch (assuming you;ve still got the gear wheel). Alternatively, it could be a double-header, the powered loco leading?
