Bachmann Big Hauler Rc Unit

Hello
I have just got hold of an old Bachmann Big Hauler RC transmitter and receiver which I want to use to operate a fixed motor driven model.
A few questions

1. Does anyone have a wiring diagram for this type of unit?
2. Does the receiver operate of the same power supply as the motor?
3. What voltage is this power supply and are there alternative connections in the loco?

Thanks
Bill

I have two of them - the motor operates between 7.2v & 9v. The sound unit is 9v (PP3 in tender). The TX is 9v but I don't know if the RX is the same voltage. If out of range or the TX is turned off, the loco will continue to run at full speed until control is regained.

Other than knowing to leave well enough alone (electronics and I do not go together well), that's all I know - maybe somebody will have the answer!

There are some low cost receiver units.. And transmitters that have excellent range. They are also very compact. I fitted them to several models.

I think I would probably bin that. Had one in the very early days and the RC was pretty dire. Also I think it was 27mg

Was known to suffer from an effect called Rusty Bolt where the track acts as a confusing point for the RC Signal. Though this was more of a problem for Live Steam. Suggest you look at a 2.4 Ghz system out there if reliability is what you would like. There are plenty to chuose from.

Yeah, I've never used it - it came with an early bugmauler that I bought for a nominal sum from a good man on the forum, but I've kept it in case somebody wanted a bit.

2.4 Mhz R/C can be pretty cheap nowadays - I suppose I could make a bit more space in the bits bin :shake::shake::shake::shake::shake::shake:

Follow the link in post #2, and just use the sound part in a 'cheap as chips' project..
