Bachmann C-19

Maybe I should poke my head out from under my rock more often. I did not know Bachmann had produced the C-19 2-8-0 loco until I saw one on Ebay this morning. It's quite impressive, although way above my price range.

Really nice models, a mate has one in Bumble Bee livery. Later this year it's due in my workshop to have an MTH smoke unit and DCS chip fitted.

Check ana kramer on ebay he has them way lower cost. Good reliable US dealer. I have bought a couple of locos from him and brought them over to UK. Max.

It is a lovely loco. The detailing and overall production value is possibly their best.
It seems that although it is a fine loco, Bachmann did not sell as many as they wanted (possibly the price had a lot to do with it) and they got their fingers burnt. This could well be bad news for any future new loco developments in 1:20.3 scale  :(

I partnered my one with a QSI sound decoder.
The tender is heavily weighted and contains a fair bit of electronics! ( I may take out some of the tender weights to allow my C19 to be able to pull a couple of cars up my 1:10 gradients)

Here she is at Richie`s open day on his layout

Very nice she looks Mike ;D
I was told by someone last year that Bachmann wouldn't be bringing out any new 1:20.3 stock not sure how true this was .

That's a very nice, well proportioned, engine.

Richie.....Yes it does appear that Bachmann may have pulled out of developing any more new 1:20.3 steam locos but maybe they will be bringing out some 1:29 stuff (if the rumours of the handover of the Aristocraft moulds are correct)

She is nicely proportioned just as the 1:1 scale version was...a lovely little engine that was the workhorse of many narrow gauge lines for a long time.
Here is a couple of shots of my one on another layout ( I took her to quite a few venues along with the rolling stock)

its sad but true,, i dont think we will see anymore products from bachmann, which is a shame as they cracked it in the end

i like the c19 and could easily buy 3, but at the mo there just at that price where i would rather pick up a brass accucraft version

although if the price comes down to 500 then i would buy a couple,,

and there are none second hand ever,,,,

Would love to get the Bumble Bee which just needs a red diamond stack to match the domes to go with my #268 Bumble Bee but at double the price of my K-27 it's way over my badget . Shame as it would be a nice loco to join the stable .

I had been waiting for this loco for some time since Bachmann first posted that they were producing one.

I looked at buying one from the US based ebay guy ana.kramer, but even with his lower price (about $700), by time the shipping and the import VAT was lobbed on (even if it was mollified a little) it came to nearly the price that I managed to get one for from Hattons (£595). They had four in stock at the better price but soon sold them and now I think that they are about £890 or so.
As there was no real saving I decided that I would go for the safety of a UK warranty in case anything went wrong.

Is that what is know as a Consolidation. (He says - not knowing much about American locos!)

To be sure you are correct sir, a 2-8-0

i to looked at the hattons black unlettered,, just over 600 and nearly took the bait

to me its a lovely looking loco , far nicer and prototypical than the other connie,,, which is ugly,,,

will get one one day,,,

i like beavercreeks,, tried to get a cowcatcher for one but sold out at bachmann

Here is a link to one of the seller`s listings http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BACHMANN-C-19-G-SCALE-RIO-GRANDE-SOUTHERN-40-2-8-0-TENDER-83197-NEW-IN-BOX-/311248255688?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item4877d77ac8 . Plenty of other liveries available and he is US based.

I got the black unlettered one form Hattons Davey. Like Mike the all up price was too close to Hattons to make a decision in favour of importing from Mr Kramer. Then I got flying Rio Grande logos from G Scale Graphics, while getting my West Well Lumber Co. lettering sorted, and applied the number 346 and other lettering from a left over DJB sheet. Et voila !

It is a beautifully proportioned loco. Now if only I had the money for an Accucraft C-25 live steamer. Dream on. Max.

ahhhh good idea maxi,, like i say i came very close to snaffling one from hattons , i think they had 2 black unlettered

i even tried to order a cowcatcher for it but they were sold out

might get one from mr kramer, when the exchange rate gets better

and with the cost of fuel dropping,no doubt the shipping costs will drop too eh,,, cough,,,

I've been watching the US price since they were released; I would love one but at $ A 1500 or so from the local supplier it is out of the question. The price in the US is slowly coming down, Trainworld for example has gone from $US 899 to $799 in the last year about (although with the falling Aussie dollar that doesn't do me much good) and with evil bay prices also reducing slowly. So there is hope that one will be operating on the N&BR at some time in the future. I'd actually be quite happy with one which was denatured ie just down to the basic boards at a lower price, such as they did with the Climax, as I would be ripping lots of stuff out to put in battery and r/c but I'm not sure I can see that happening. A lovely loco though - one which is actually better in the flesh than in photos.

So the question is; To have one or two fine locomotives or a fleet of less expensive haulers. If I sold most of what I have, I could afford one or two of these. But then I would have to change the theme of my railway, I didn't know I had one ??? , which I have done over the twenty three years I have been into large scale, more than once.

I think the answer for me is that I would get bored with a single loco. Of course it would make what to run really simple ;). And after all, small railways probably had only a few pieces of equipment. Otherwise they wouldn't have looked so run down.

In my next life I would like to have a generous amount of disposable income.
