Bachmann Davenport Diesel loco

I just bought one of these from San-Val on Ebay. It's my first foray into Bachmann. I'm sure the topic of these has been discussed here, but I'm too lazy to look it up at the moment. What has been your experience with them?

Same mechanically as my Lilliput Lok V3 - so a good runner, incredibly in some ways as it runs happily though R1 points despite it's short wheelbase and only 4 pickups. I've used Peco Electrolube on the plunger/wheel pickup things to keep it rolling nicely :)

I've also been 'Europeanising' my one - there's a thread on here... further steps to come to eliminate rivets, Davenport branding and fit windscreen wipers and handles on the hood.

Lovely smooth runner, quite weighty and a good hauler.

Fitted a high power HO scale decoder (I forget which, probably either a CT Electronik DCX51 @ 1.5 amps or Zimo MX69H @ 1.8 amps)

I found I needed to carry out the minor roller pickup adjustment as per George Shreyer's tips (see Mickb's link above)

I like them except for the headlight, I thank Bachmann could have done better there

I'm not impressed with the headlight either. I plan to remove it and place two small headlights down low to make it more European looking, as James has done. I have Goerge Shreyers site in my favorites and refer to often. Both he and Greg Elmassian have quite alot of good information compiled.
