Bachmann Davenport question

Some time ago, there was a discussion here about the Bachmann Davenport down hill operation. It seems that when travelling down a grade, the locomotive jerks along, whether going in forward or reverse. Was there ever a conclusion as to why this happens? And if so, is there a remedy?

I guess it will depend on your grades - I should imagine that unless you've got VERY steep grades that you won't notice the surging. I have had no problems with mine on very gentle grades. It's a wonderful runner for the price!

I do not remember this complaint with this model, but I do with the truck?

Gear lash and drivetrain movement was the problem. There are a few HO deisels that had the problem. Washers to prevent the driveshafts from shifting had been the solution to the HO diesels, as with the Bachmann truck.

So on your Davenport I would see where something has any lateral movement in the drivetrain and adress it if possible.

James, it doesn't take too much of a grade to see the lurching.
I took George Schreyer's tip about lubricating, and it has worked. We'll see, in the long term, if it helps.
I am pleased, however, with the overall performance and appearance of this locomotive. I had it running in the garden yesterday and it ran well. That is until one of the side rods fell off. Fortunately the teeny tiny screw that holds the rod to the wheel hub stayed in the counterweight. Oh, did I say I was pleased with this loco 8| Being an LGB man, it's easy to get used to perfection. I've not gone outside of the EPL box in twenty years. But now that I am converting to battery power I feel that pick up issues with other manufacturers is not the sole reason for my predjudice.
