Hey all,

I recently finished kit bashing/modifying this Bachmann Spectrum K-27 on commission into RGS 461. This involved rebuilding the entire cylinder block with new inward sloping valve cylinders, new valve gear parts made from brass, "Steel" cab sides and custom vinyl lettering all around from Del at G Scale Graphics. I'm very pleased with the result and certainly hope my client will be too!

Very nice clean conversion. If I were not so far away I would come to you for some "specials". Yes, Del Tapporo at G Scale Graphics (or is it his partner?) does very nice vinyls - He did the "flying" logos for my C-19 and my logging roster. Interesting to see he can do the RGS sunrise device. Max

That's a very professional finish I must say, I'm converting 455 to 453, and wondering where you got the headlight with protruding number boards

Hello, I am very far from your skill, but I try to scratch build a K-27 with some drawings available from the net (k-27 #464 Billy Boiven 1957): left side, right side, front and rear, but never looking down.
I have found no design or explanations about the items on the cabin's roof: may I Inquire a few pixs of the roof. Mine is a wooden one waiting for detailing.
thanks for tour help

Hi hello there I came across this post of yours and the phenomenal finished project of the loco,,I thought you might be the person to ask,,I need to make a new roof for my k-27 bachmann but I'm struggling with styrene? The roof is challenging as it firm a straight section shape where it sits down on the cab and I can't find a method to use styrene to make the shape,,would you have any suggestions ease I'm thinking of resorting to balsa?

Hello. I made a Cab from wood (american black walnut tree) using my table saw and other router and planer from Proxxon . The roof is made of mini wooden planks of Oak tree 2.3 mm thick and 8 mm wide. they are glued on the structure and then covered with a sheet of plasticard 1mm thick with neoprene in spray. The riveted gasket is of the same metal and the the drawing of the electric tubes is from a photo from Model Railroader june 1973.

This is not a professional work, just a great pleasure to search drawings and tools to make it as close as possible .... For the tender I'am not sure!!!
