I began my holiday to the Scottish Borders, Northumberland and County Durham with a visit to Beamish. There is a lot to see and though I spent more than 4 hours there I left feeling that i had only scratched the surface. Will definitely visit again especially as your entry ticket is valid for a year! So the visit began with a trip to the mining village by bus:P6070919.JPG

After going to the Mining Village I moved on to the Colliery. There was a lot to see there, to begin with I went into the Workshops where a number of locos were stored:

Cant do a like for some reason, love Beamish and yes you did a good look but did you miss the early line with the 18xx early locomotives? Every time I go I intend to use my ticket another time, but never managed it yet over say 6 visits! So much to see and do, well worth a full 8 hour day if your legs can take it, can certainly recommend the Pub in the High Street and the Chippy near the Mine.

There were quite a few things that I missed, saving them for the next visit including the early line. A lot of places seem to be offering tickets valued for a year including a couple of places that I visited on this trip - Woodhorn Mining Museum at Ashington and the Royal Navy Museum at Hartlepool. Will really have to make an effort to head North again within a year!!
