Billy coupler question

I received two Picco coaches today for the Billy I'm working on. I like link and pin if possible but I need advice on changing couplers on the coaches.image2.JPGimage3.JPG

One idea that might work is to use lgb 64777 link and pin coupler.

I've never used them but they might be a straight swap as most g scale couplers can be swapped between manufacturers.

Where do you normally source link and pin couplers from? I'm sure with a bit of work they could be made to work,

Dan

I think I got them from Ozark Miniatures some time ago. I was just investigating those couplers you mention and they would be great if they were a swap.

Brandbright used to do a Cast LGB Compatible Type Coupling. All my Live Steam Locs and some of my Battery Bodges have them. Sadly since the demise of Brandbright they are no longer available - unless someone knows better.

Best bet would be to keep the LGB Compatibles on your stock (if you plan to buy more with LGB Type Couplings) then try to manufactur a Bar out of Metal that will allow your Stock to Couple to Billy.

A problem with Link and Pin, if you get a derailment all the Train tends to come off. Dont ask me how I know this!

After a lot of debating I decided to use this approach for coupling. I went to a craft store and purchased a costume jewelry necklace with heavy and strong links and small screw eyes. I used a dremel tool to open up the screw eye just enough to allow the first link of the chain to pass through and crimped the eye shut around the link. a pilot hole was drilled in the center buffer and the center buffer and screw eye were roughed up and epoxied. I will use the hook in the Billy center buffer for this car and keep the LGB style couplers for remaining stock. This will take care of my problem initially. I have a water car and caboose with link and pin but will let those stay idle for awhile.
