Black 5 double header

time is not my friend
We had a mini steam up on Saturday and a friend and double headed our WuHu Black 5's. His is the lead and is the new style with improved body work and ceramic burner. Mine is the old style with a poker. The ceramics did not like the cold so much. Video below.

Nice video, David. I like the layout. Is the minimum radius more than 10 feet? There didn't seem to be any trouble on the curves.

Very nice, I wonder if Mr Summerland could be persuaded to do something to make them Chuff Some.

JonD, that would be nice! George, The inside line is a 10' radius with a few inches more on the outer. The black 5's will actually go around easily on a 5' radius in my basement.

Best Regards,
David

Nice. Thanks, David. I've got a couple of locos that will barely make it through a 10 foot radius!

A full size Black 5 double header passed close to my house this morning so I thought it might be appropriate to post a couple of pics here.

This is my wife taking some photos in the early morning cold

And here are the photos she took

I would have included some of the photos I took but I messed up the camera settings and they were rubbish  :)

Corr! Blue sky and steam exhaust - loverly. :D

Hi Dave - it's great to see your Black Fives running so well - I too, have one of the older Wuhu Black Fives, but unfortunately I cannot seem to get it going like yours does.

I suspect that the gas jet may be of the wrong size because the flame either wants to stay in the smoke box, or jump back to the poker and blow itself out. I've looked for a number on the jet, but it appears to be not marked although the hole does appear to be bigger than those in my Roundhouse FG burners.

I was wondering what size jet you are running in yours? - many thanks!

Train man, I will check. But first, my jet was extrodinarily plugged upon arrival. You nigh want to give it a soak in a mild citruis solution and then try blasting it clear backwards. That is what mine required, Also, the first light of the day can be tricky, try letting a bit of gas out of the tank as mine will get gulps of liquid. The whole fire box/reduce/out bit was maddening until i got it down. Also, one other discovery was that the rubber hose feeding the jet could cause a side load which would cause it to not burn correct until I shortened it. Hope this helps. I will report back on jet size.
