BRAWA G4/5 locomotive parts

Hello all,

Going to ask a pretty daft question now, ... Does anyone know if you can still get spare parts for the Brawa G4/5?

I know Brawa have not made them for some time and that they do not supply the G scale market much now.

Mainly I just need service parts such as pick-up plungers etc. ... Had to resort to making my own motion components when they inevitably broke!

Thanks (in hope?)

Would think that LGB plungers would be fine, have some taken out of Piko and Trainline locs if you can measure Brawa ones to see if they may do.

Thanks for the reply. I've had a quick look and they look a fair bit slimmer than LGB standard plungers ( not too sure how they measure up against PIKO as I don't have any of their locos)

Problem is with this monster is that BRAWA seem to have built the loco around the plungers (if you get what I mean?) I will have to take it apart and put a rule over the plungers when I have them in my hands.

I believe Märklin actually bought the molds from Brawa when they produced their version. Some parts for the Märkin version, are still available. There is a good chance they'll work for the Brawa version too. Märklin Onlineshop

Thanks a million for this info Phil. Interestingly enough, if you compare the Brawa exploded drawing to the Marklin equivalent, it looks very much like Marklin have done away with the locomotive wheel pickups altogether (they do not show or list them?) and rely solely on tender wheel pickup?

Having said that, I did manage to remove the pickup block on my loco and found that due to oil and grease over the years (when in previous ownership) had gummed up the springs and plungers! A good dip in some meths got rid of the "gunge" then the fun and games started!.... The carbon brushes were all a good 8mm long so not as worn out as I had first thought and the springs became twice as "springy," the whole lot had just taken a "set" in the mucky, oily "soup"!! But what a game to try and persuade all four simultaneously now to sit back inside the wheel treads where they should!!!...... Remembered a few words which I thought were long-forgotten I can tell you!... Especially when two of the brushes made a bid for freedom on a couple of occasions!!

Anyway, three hours later!..all back together now and ready for the next instalment which is replacing several bosses for mounting screws on the boiler and cab. I have ordered a couple of bits from the Marklin site as I could not replicate them to a good enough standard (buffers and cab steps)

Onwards and upwards!

I've been able to hold the brushes in place with painters tape on most of my locos when re-assembling motor blocks. That's assuming I've found the wayward springs and brushes that escaped on disassembly!o_O:swear::swear::swear:
