It stopped raining today so the track was cleared for the Santa Specials. I took the opportunity to road test the VW Railbus. With a bit of luck I may be able to add a picture.

I feel proud, my first uploaded picture.

The VW runs extremely well but is so small compared with other stock.

The two Stainzes were on track cleaning duties but the VW was a bit overwhelmed when the NW2 on the Santa train came up behind.

when the NW2 on the Santa train came up behind.

That would wake you up a bit, wouldn't it. :rolf:

I'd say the proportion between the VW and NW2 looks about right. It's the Stainzes that appear to be too large (though not in a normal context with other rolling stock).

Strange you say that as the NW2 is 1:29, the Stainz is 1:22.5 like the VW

The VW does look to be 1:32 scale Gauge one when you look at the figure behind the wheel.

On the box it states G/11m 1:22.5.
Its 180mm long so does anyone have the length of a real one?

Real T2 camper is 4505mm long - that makes it around 1:25 then.
Great little model though.

Oh Hello I'm a new person btw

maybe the drivers the same sizes as me :D :bighug: :rolf: :rolf: :rolf:

You can get this model VW camper for around £15 in 1/24 scale measures 16cm long 6cm high 6cm wide you might be able to fit a motor to this

Recently stumbled across this whilst searching for something else.
(VW Geek Mode on) The Brekina model is based on the T1a "Barndoor", which is 4100mm long. This should scale down to 182.2mm in G-scale so at 180mm the Brekina jobbie isn't that far out. (VW Geek Mode off) 8|

The Haynes model that Richie refers too does look quite a bit smaller when you put it alongside the Brekina (oh if only I was at home I could post a piccy - maybe later).

BTW - a belated welcome CJD

Split-window T2 wheelbase is 2400mm, same as swing-axle Beetle.
Length can be 4080mm

David

Have owned T1, T3 & T4 - never a T2
Type 4 petrol heaters repaired = 11
Cars set fire to = 0

Nice David, my prevoius VW onwership

2 x Beetle - a '63 and a '73
2 x Campers - a '67 Split Devon and a '73 Bay Westfalia

Really wish I'd have kept the Devon. Sold it to buy the Bay before I knew better. Worse move ever.

Anyhoo back on thread.

Searching the tech specs on the web for the VW Split bus/van/camper reveal differing length measurements from 4050mmm to 4100mm

Now 4050mm scales out to exactly 180mm at 1:22.5 so maybe Brekina used this measurement in producing their model.
