Building a batterie loco

Hello all,
I need some help. I would like to build a locomotive with battery and radio remote control. I have never done anything like this before.
Who can recommend components? I want to use 4 S lithium ion batteries, then I need a control board, a receiver with transmitter and a motor controller. The drive I'm using is from LGB, that's why I need 4 cells so I can get over 12 V. Otherwise the locomotive is too slow.
So now I ask you for tips.I found the radio control from Piko, but the transmitter only has buttons, and the receivers from RC Trains can only be operated with 3S batteries, which doesn't seem very powerful for my LGB motor.
The whole system is supposed to be simple. I want to drive and not program a lot.

Thanks

Hello Andreas,

Which LGB loco are you thinking of?
There are ways of goi going beyond the published limits of the Deltang components.

I will PM you tomorrow, with some details

I have a few LGB locos powered by 3S batteries and they are fast enough, though I am considering converting my Annie to 4S.

I have several locos with 4S Li Ion batteries and a variety of motor blocks (Piko, Hartland, Essel, USAT.) The remote control is one of RCS' DSM2-compatible handhelds - the DSM2 gives you access to many different (cheap) receivers. The receiver plugs in to the ESC (electronic speed control,) which manages the motor block.

I usually complicate things with sound as well - I use Mylocosound boards. The wiring is simple though there is lots of it and you have to be methodical. Here's a couple of LSC threads on my locos.

I suggest that you talk to Fosworks at Fosworks web site. Their radio control has a small transmitter with knobs, handles voltages up to 28v and requires no programming.. They can also add sound if you want it.

Hi,
here the link to the loco KLICK

I should mention that my other battery loco with a 4S battery pack has a Crest/Revolution control system. While it is proprietary, everything is on 1 board in the loco, and it is easy to set it up and run. Sound is an option on the loco board.

If you search the USA forums like Mylargescale and Largescalecentral, you'll find fervent fans of Airwire, NCE, RailPro, and other systems.

I recently posted a step-by-step set of instructions as to how to convert a Bachmann "Big Hauler" 4-6-0 steam locomotive to a combination of switch select-able
battery/track power and wireless revolution remote control with sound. The documents are available at the link below.

Hello,
Thanks for your tips - I have decided to go for RC and will use a Fosworks controller.
I will report further in the construction report.
Thanks
