This is my poker burner setup for a Marklin live steam. When in the locomotive the gas lights in the firebox but doesn’t flash back. I’ve cleaned the tank valve, tried adjusting the air slots, adjusting the burner in the slot, but still no luck.
Appreciate any ideas. Tried a new jet, but wouldn’t even light in the smokebox.
I’m not sure this is the original burner but it fits.
Thanks all.

Odd, sounds like you may have the gas turned up too high, or it's escaping from the burner somehow. Have you (CAREFULLY) tried lighting the burner outside the loco?

Regners can at times be tricky to light, other times no problem. Have you tried a blow down the chimney when the fire is in the firebox (smokebox to us), this can sometimes work as can a momentary block of the chimney with a piece of metal or card. Don't put your mouth on the chimney, just blow from a few inches away.

How are you lighting it? - Top of chimney, or open smoke box?

You may get better results from the top of the chimney, with smokebox door closed.
Also less gas, possibly..

I'm no expert, but I thought the gauze was meant to be on the outside of the burner.
Ah I though about that and wondered a bit. Perhaps remove the gauze and most you can use mix gas in very cold weather, butane only thus time of the year and summer.

Have you tried to see if you have some gas leaking before entering the gas-jet of the burner?
I scratch-built a burner and it worked just out of the boiler, because the I discovered the jet of the gas wasn't fast enough to mix properly with air inside the boiler tube.
I tried thousand modification of the burner, the slots, the cross shape... nothing. After eliminating this leaking, the burner started to work properly and the flame to run back soon inside the boiler tube.
Greetings
Alberto
