These are big and heavy engines. They were oil fired and had the cab at the front to prevent crew asphyxiation whilst  `blasting` through the forty odd mile tunnels of the Sierra Nevada mountains. (I know that the combe Down tunnels on the Somerset and Dorset were bad with a double head on the up grade but the authorities felt that a Southern Pacific Cab Forward might look a tad out of place pulling out of Bath Green Park.

This accucraft gas fired version has a good head of steam....check the video    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7blzfBBsEyM  but you will definately need both burners on to keep all those wheels turning.
You will also need the four drain-cocks open when pulling away and don`t peer down the chimney.
I also like the split separator over the blast pipe to protect the tunnel roofs

Finally when you see a C/F with a mile of freight on please do not refer to it as `Thomas`  Happy Steaming.

Utterly fantastic Trevor. Certainly producing enough steam to lift the safety and giva a lonng blast on the whistle. I would have loved one of those but.............Thought of trying to bash my Aristo' Mallett at one point so I could have a Cab Forward looky-likey to go with my Daylight sets (I think CB's were sometimes used as helpers on some passenger duties late in life) Oh well,l I'll just have to dig out the Pentrex DVD "Last run of a CB over Donner Pass" DVD for now. Something to do on ones day off.

Thanks for posting, Max.

Any hobo that decided that the platform behind the smokbox door was a good place to hitch a ride usually met a grizzly end.
