Cheapest source for Thomas the Tank

I've just heard that my 7yo nephew is going to be visiting from the States in July. Now, he was only 3yo the last time he came, but I think I've just about repaired the damage since his last visit. I know he's a fan of Thomas (unless he's now grown out of it) - just wondered what was the cheapest source of G gauge Thomas gear. Is there a really cheapo r/c set anywhere? I'd rather he wrecked Thomas than my latest batch of locos and stock.

Percy and trucks currently listed at £175 at Back2Bay6

Or if you just want a loco only.

Thomas £110
Percy £95
James £125
Toby £150

Percy sounds like the best buy, but I might be tempted by Thomas (if the Chancellor of the House, approves it). I assume there will be more room inside to fit batteries and r/c.

Just had a thought, I've got a Piko 0-6-0 chassis which is going to be a new build loco - is there anywhere I can get a Thomas Tank body to fit on it pro tem? - doesn't have to be the Bachmann one as long as it looks more or less OK

Wasn't there a Thomas shape sorter that can be used as a "G-scale" Thomas bash.

Not the one currently available from Tomy, it was and old Chad Valley item I think or possibly Fisher Price.

think i've got a thomas pencil case thing i was going to put on a playmobil chassis

Thanks for the idea, chaps.

Did a quick scoot around my local charity shops and came across this little beauty for the princely sum of £3.29

Made by Ertl and about the right scale. Easily dismantled with four self tappers.

Revealed a low voltage motor and some gears - I`m sure they will come in handy!
Half an hour with the razor saw and a craft knife, later ........

..... add one Piko 0-6-0 chassis, and I have the makings of a passable Thomas.

All I need to do now is strip out the wheel contacts from the Piko chassis, add a battery and a Deltang receiver/controller - and hopefully the little tike darling nephew will be happy.

Methinks it's a risk worth taking for the investment of £3.29.
The chassis etc. will be recycled for my next loco build once he's departed (or I've throttled the little bleeder!) ??? >:(
Who knows, he might have become angelic since I last saw him........... ::) ::)

Oh no graffiti everywhere! Wrong sort of tagging?
Ace job on the Thomas, it looks as good (ahem) as the RTR jobbie :D

Why can I never find any of these bargains??
Ever..
Anywhere!!

Though 'we' did just get an Allegra (analogue) set, delivered from Germany (more-or-less in one piece) for £884 inclusive.. now do we fit the Marklin decoder and try to turn a profit to buy more for the Harz? Or do we keep it??

Wheelbase foreshortened - but I'm sure I (and he) can live with it

Sewer and violets came to mind with Riks buy!
One of the joys of being retired. Spent a day trekking around market stalls, cheapo shops (B&M, Poundstretcher, Wilkinsons, etc) and nearly every charity shop within a ten mile radius. The Thomas toy was in the penultimate charity shop on my list. :D :D
