G scale trains - no surprise there then!

I understand that 'Cuffed2Bits' is no longer trading as Mike Derby has retired, but does anyone know if the business has been handed over to another person or company?.

Not as such..

But..... If you are talking about the RC equipment, then I might be able to help?

I got the impression that Mike handed over his "book" to this trader when he retired Amazing Little Trains Ltd. | Midlands | Model Railway Saw them at the recent Midlands Garden Railway Show. Bought a Bachmann Spectrum long caboose. They seem to feature ESU products, another reason I dipped in there. Max

P.S. Graham Langer's new venture Welcome to the Model Railway Clearing House - Model Railway Clearing House was set up next door. An Accucraft Goose #7 winked at me there, oh dear ! If you are into F scale (15 mm) US narrow gauge there is a lot going on there.

Hi PhilP. Maybe you can help. Mike did a re-install of the RC system to my Accucraft 'Lawley' (2005 model) in 2022, and it has worked fine until recently when the whistle, and direction controls were working OK, but the throttle just did not move. Now none of these controls function. I have ordered a new charger in case the fault is there, but once the loco battery pack is charged and if the result is still the same, would you be interested in having a look at it, and if so where are you based?

I am in Nottingham.
At the National Show, Stoneleigh April and Llangollen in June.

It hasn't just come unbound from the transmitter, by any chance?

Tried to recharge it and it was a sucess, in that two of the three (I suppose) servos are working. The whistle and Direction servos appear OK, as the linkages or 'sounds' seem normal. However the throttle servo linkage does not move and there is a constant 'humming' or low 'buzzing' sound coming from the loco, when you active the hand controller unit. Any ideas?

The servo is not powerful enough to move the regulator, which is stiff/stuck..

Disconnect the linkage, and the manually 'waggle' the regulator back and forth to free it up.

CAUTION!
Try not to lengthen/shorten the linkage, as it can be quite critical.

Hi Phil. Tried that. Disconnected the linkage. The regulator 'arm' or 'handle' is very free in movement. I was able to move the linkage up and down relatively easy, but when I reconnected it again, switched on the Controller - the linkage returned to the closed position, and when I moved the Controller to 'Open, there was no movement in the linkage and the 'buzzing' started again!!!

Did you try the controller with the linkage disconnected? - If so, does the servo move, or do you get the buzzing?

If the servo moves, does it appear to be moving in the right direction?

It could be the servo is faulty..

PhilP.

Hi Phil.

Disconnected the linkage and operated the controller - the linkage/throttle/regulator arm moved 'down' which 'opens' the throttle, but it will not move back 'up' to close the throttle/regulator. You can move the inkage up & down manually relatively freely.

The 'buzzing/humming still starts and continues when you operate the throttle/regulator, It does NOT appear if you operate either the whistle or the direction which both appear to be operating normally.

Sorry to be struggling with this problem - I can of course forget the RC on the regulator and run it manually, but that's a bit like failure.

As Tony says, sounds like the servo has failed / stripped some teeth.

You could plug one of the other servos to that channel of the receiver. - That would prove the channel output is working correctly.

I would guess the amount of travel was never set, so the servo has been trying to force the regulator further than it will go.
This has either damaged the gears, of blown an output transistor in the servo.

PhilP.
