I have always been fond of the 48 class locos of the NSWGR, so when a 2055 body turned up on flea bay, I could not resist.
The existing paint job had to go.

I used USA PA-1 bogies and side frames but I had to shorten the fuel tank and change the step to get them to fit.
The result so far is shown below, not entirely accurate, but I like it.

I still have finish the hand rails and do some weathering.
In case you a wondering about the road number, it is a combination of my squadron and year of posting.

From my recollections it looks damned near accurate to me.... Anyone who saw it would say that what it was.... Put a train of end platform Illawarra cars behind it and run the train through Gerringong or Jaspers Brush and all will aver that it's the South Coast daylight Express...

Nice job Simon. When I repainted one of these for my Jamaican line it was pointed out to me that the large boxes on the roof housed the equipment necessary to cope with the extremely low temperatures experienced on the WP&YR, so were inappropriate. I ended up modifying my roofline but of course you may be happy to leave it as it is. Either way it is an attractive loco.

Excellent paint work. I like the large bogies on diesels and electrics. It gives a more solid appearance, IMHO.
