Coaches for Bachmann "Lyn"

I have just bought a Bachmann "Lyn", with which I am very pleased. I am now looking for coaches. I am not too bothered about historical accuracy, but would like to get "ready-to-run" at a reasonable price. I have been lent a Bachmann "Emily" coach, which while quite nice, seems a bit too big for the engine. Are they to the same scale? Any suggestions, anyone? Malcolm.

The bogie or 4wheel coaches on this page look good with Lyn and John is an excellent dealer

This link should take you to post #81 on page 5 of my layout thread with Lyn next to the 4 wheel coaches.

Lyn is 15mm to the foot scale while these coaches are 16mm to the foot so they will all look slightly big.

I've just bought an Emily coach and am very impressed with it for the price. It's not really possible to quote a scale, after all it's a fantasy toy from a children's TV programme - not that that should detract from it being a great model of course.

Anyhoo, having done a couple of conversions of the Annie and Clarabel coaches (which have the same basic body), the doors are actually quite small when you place a 1/22.5 G scale model figure alongside them. So my guesstimate would be that the Emily coaches are much closer to 1/22.5 than 1/19th.

Hope this helps.

Thanks gentlemen. I will probably wait for the IOM coaches, they do look very "period". Incidentally, I found the "Emily" coach rather reluctant to go round R1 curves. I solved this (with the owners permission) by pressing the wheels on a tiny bit more (about 1mm). If I install points, is this likely to cause fouling?

Yes, there's every chance I'd have thought. The Bachmann metal wheels on these coaches are very good, but the flanges are fairly thick and your slight re-gauging may well lead to problems with check-rails etc.

The next batch of IOM 4 wheel coaches will be coming in both the original maroon and cream versions and a new GWR green and cream 'generic' verson. The factory have not given Accucraft a delivery date yet as they are moving factories, but log on to the Accucraft web site for updates. If radius is not an issue, the new L&B bogie coaches due 1st qtr and 3rd qtr 2012 might be of interest. The main problem that anyone will have is reverse curves. IOM coaches will go round R1 curves in one direction but derail on reverse curves. Only LGB loop couplings will cope with R1.
