So....yesterday I got the line working on track power, minus the Digitrax duplex radio control. However overnight we had a massive electrical storm that took out all the local area's power from 8pm to 4.30am., plus phones and internet for a couple of hours. I was feeling smug as we have a whole house generator which kicked in and we were fine.

Pride goeth before a fall.....

This morning the DCS 100 central station was fried (yes, I'd left it connected!), so back to the true R/C route.

AirWire say their Convrtr 60X should work with the Zimo 695 as it outputs 6amps. My Zimo dealer says it won't work as the Zimo needs 5amps +.

Anyone know the truth?

Why, if the Zimo dealer says the 695 only needs 5 amps (and that is not true either), why is 6 amps supplied not enough?

Is there some contention that 5 is greater than 6?

Who is your Zimo dealer in the States? Did you talk to Dan Pierce?

Greg

I agree with you Greg. However I'm really a novice with decoders and such.

My Zimo dealer is Axel at TrainLine USA. He's always been more than helpful to me.

The only way this makes sense, is IF you are running more than one loco, which are drawing more than 2.5Amps each??

Because a decoder is rated at 5Amps, it does not consume that current, unless the loco demands it.

I use this particular combination with no problems and great success. I use all Zimo decoders and an ESU Ecos 2 command station. However, as I am one of two club members running DCC I needed a solution for battery "to go" so I could "show off" my equipment at our meetings. I have used the new Convrtr 60X with many of my Zimo decoders with no issues.

Thank you very much. That's very encouraging.

I heard a voice telling me to buy a live steam loco!
