I own a Toshiba Camileo S30 video camera. Its output is in an AVI file format which is alien to MS movie editing software While I can convert these files with the supplied ArcSoft Mediaimpressions2 software to the correct format this takes ages. As a result I now find I hardy use the camera as it is such a chore to convert clips to make up a publishable short film.

Any ideas of how to get round the problem with as speedy file conversion tool ? I've looked on-line but those "tutorials" that deal with the issue are incomprehensible to me and I do not trust any of the software options that do not come with some sort of verifyable 3rd party endorsement. Your help would be appreciated. Max.

Pretty sure I've used software from NCH in the past (Prism?) I definitely recall their icon on my desktop.

I've also got Handbrake more recently, this seems good. I expect it will do what you want (can't verify until I get home).

Generally I convert to MP4 these days, and I use VideoPad for editing.

Handbrake can convert AVI to MP4 or MKV, doesn't look like it converts to WMV

Thanks for the tips, I'll give them a try. I might start putting some videos on here as a result, I'm not sure if that is a good thing or not, Max.
