Coupler Height

Hi quick question are coupling heights the same between brands LGB, Piko, etc?
Bachman and Newquida are also similar. Some Playmobil Locomotives benefit from their coupling being removed and turned upside down. The wagons though are also compatible to LGB hook and loop. However for more reliable use except for Playmobil I fit my stock where possible with KGB couplers, these I find to be more durable in use.

Piko and LGB are virtually the same coupling and mounted at the same height. I also have a Bachmann wagon and some Hartland Loco Works trucks with similar couplings at the same height.

Quite often, LGB stock has a hook only fitted on the rear coupling and not the front. I always fit the additional hook to all my LGB vehicles. Double hooking means your train is less likely to uncouple and all stock is 'bi-directional' and can be used when you have reversing loops as I do....

Note - Some makes are supplied with alternate US style "knuckle" couplers (also used here on 1:1 scale :)), along with hook and loop. These will for obvious reasons be featured mostly on US outline products. I started with Aristocraft, USA Trains, Bachman & LGB - all considered "G Scale". These knuckles could be used together satisfactorily, with the exception of Aristocraft. However all would work together with their hook and loop options fitted, along with the other makes mentioned. Be aware you should check that, if buying 2nd hand, the correct option for your use, is fitted/included.

You will start to get into coupler type and height issue compatibility if/when you get into the related, 45 mm gauge compatible, worlds of 16, 15 & 10 mm per foot scales. Examples - UK & US Accucraft, Bachmann, Roundhouse, etc'. But even then there are workarounds if needed. Max
