cow sounds?

Hi all,

I've nearly finished building a gauge 3 cattle wagon and have some cows for it. I'd like to add some sound effects for it, looked on Google no joy. Does anyone make such a thing as a cow sound effect card?

Si

Mike (Beavercreek) has some nice cow sounds in his cattle cars - but I think they are using now-out-of-production sound cards?

Over to you, Mike?

Jon.

Didn't LGB do a cattle wagon with sounds?
[edit] hmmm. found one with sheep sounds but not cows. I think Busch make sound sound effect modules? [/edit]

I think they did, but id have no use for the box car, well I could have but these tend to go for silly money

A cheap MP3 player and a speaker will do the same thing....

The Busch one I was thinking of is a general "on the farm" module with cow, cockrel, pigs, dog etc.

Mike (Beavercreeks) was I think a now defunct QSI card.

Very entertaining, had some form of motion sensing so the cows got more agitated the more the truck wobbled/moved.

Gizzy does make a very good suggestion. There are loads of cheap USB-stick based MP3 players around that you could simply load up with cow sounds and set on repeat, playing through a small speaker. For a bit of variety, have multiple tracks and use the shuffle mode.

For example, on amazon you can get a 512Mb mp3 stick player for a tenner, and I expect you could find an old one with less memory cheaper than that on ebay (not allowed to look while @ work!). Let's face it, you don't need a lot of memory. I've got an old 128mb player that I'm going to experiment with in this kind of a way.

I see Prehm do a CD of Alpine impressions but it's likely that this includes more than just cows - presumably alphorns and similar also.

Thanks for all the help guys. Think I will look at the MP3 route, also about to weather the wagon floor, by that I mean with paints not taking a c**p on it ha

What, and miss having the authentic smell to go with the sounds? :rolf:

Ha put it this way I went out for a curry last night..,.

Wagons nearly built will post some pics when done, it's kinda g scale!

Hi Simon

Have I got Moos for you......

I have an LGB stock car with a cow sound board and it sounds pretty good. It repeats from a small selection of digital 'moo' sounds.

I have managed to get hold of three of the QSI 'Liveaction' digital sound cards. These were discontinued about '99 or so, sound very good and as Gareth (3valve) said, they have a pendulum which makes more contact as the car moves and causes extra 'agitated' sounds.
They are powered by a 9V battery and were for 'O' scale cars.but They work just as well in our scale. I am going through the process of making track powered circuits to power them.
They often come up on the US ebay and as they are fairly small and light, they ship for low cost over to us. The sound chip is replaceable and the other sound chips (horse, funfair, circus, braking glass, explosions etc etc) are still quite easy to find.

Here is the link to recently completed sales for the cards on US ebay. Even if the seller does not say that they will ship to UK, just send them a message and usually they will..ask for USPS international first class for the cheapest shipping for small items or for USPS International Priority if the items are a bigger and heavier.

I recommend them. They moo with many different moos and also the 'agitated' cow sounds are a lot of fun and very realistic!

Good luck if you choose to track one down, it will be worth it.
