"Darjeeling" train

I have been fascinated, as others have, with the Darjeeling Himalayan Railroad. I decided recently to make a "Darjeeling" type locomotive and car. For the locomotive I used an Aristo 0-4-0; the car is a converted LGB box car. Lots of cannibalized parts and styrene card. I am obviously no craftsman and the result is probably more of a cartoon representation than anything else (laughter encouraged), but it sure was a lot of fun to do.

Well, I'm no expert on the Darjeeling Railway, but from what I've seen of it on the TV you've certainly got the spirit of it and the garden gives it the atmosphere of the real thing too.

Yes, despite being slightly "caricatured" I'd say you've captured the feel of the Darj rolling stock very well! :)

Nice. They look good and you like them - That's the all we want.

sorry to be critical but it needs more turbans,,,,, and a few brave individuals hanging off the sides

Thanks for the comments. Yes indeed, more figures hanging onto it would make it more authentic. In the actual locomotive, there is a fellow who sits on the coal bunker shoveling coal into the side chute. He is about two feet away from the whistle. I can't imagine that he isn't deaf after a while.

I'm not sure I had seen that photo before JonD. Closer than I thought.

I don't think that the DHR trains move all that fast. Videos I have seen show the train going through crowded streets and within inches of storefronts. Falling off may not be too terrible. Not like those mainline trains with people on the roofs and hanging off the sides where the injury/fatality rate must be very high.

Yes Korm, the homemade projects are fun to do and a little more special. And a caricature allows for quite a bit of freedom. My current project is a functioning rotary snowplow. I'll be a little surprised if it actually moves snow, but the challenge of designing it and building it are the best parts for me.
