I know this is on Ebay, but my question is technical. It states that the loco has been fitted with a digital decoder post-factory, what I would like to know is:
a) how easy or difficult would it be to remove the digi bit as I am analogue?
b) is it worth the cost or should I skip this and go for an analogue version, I'm not tight but it seems daft paying for a digital fitting I don't need?

Ta

As rack locos are often used on an out and back shuttle a chip fitted loco is often an advantage on analogue due to the programmable acceleration, deceleration and wait time. This one seems to have a early chip which is a bit of a shame as the the later ones have a back emf function; useful going up and down a steep incline

As Neil says, it appears to have an early 55020 chip fitted. 55021 would be better.

I'm not familiar with the loco, but if the 55020 has been simply plugged into the main board using the built-in pins then it should be a simple case of remove the decoder and flip some dip switches back on? Something like that.

Correct. It's a direct decoder interface, otherwise known as a "push the chip in and flick the switches on the circuit board" job. Removal is simple and easy.

That said, a 55020 is not worth much. I'd be willing to buy it off you, but only for GBP20 inc. postage. So you thinks about the cost and makes yer choice Puggy.

It would be running on a line with the later LGB shuttle unit wired in, so acceleration and deceleration shouldnt ( :rolf: ) be too much of a problem.
Thanks Gentlemen, my bid will soon be in (and I will keep you updated on the divorce procedings):onphone:
Oh and Korm, there is a Brand Spanker in a little shop i know for €700, obviously bought in years ago and they are using the original purchase price as the selling price. You know the kind of shop, creaky floors, stuff stacked up to the roof, old bloke who can hardly hear but knows exactly where everything is, my favourite!
