Decals for Bachman Climax

I have an unlettered Climax and would like to add some labelling to it.

I have tried to search the forum on the topic of decals and so far I have failed to find anything that covers what I‘m after. A Google search turned up San Juan Models who do a lettering sheet for the Climax but not in large scale and, as they are US-based, it’s not clear if they ship outside of North America. I’d assumed (silly me) that Bachmann would sell such things but it appears not.

Can anyone point me at a supplier or suggest a firm that may be prepared to make up a set of custom decals suitable for the Climax?

Thanks.

Not cheap, but UK, and can produce a wide variety of decals..

They can even multi-pass, to create rivets!

I have used G Scale graphics in the US Custom Lettering Advantage - they use vinyl, no messing around with laquers. However closer to home - Endon Valley Endon Valley Custom Decals Waterslide type, so you will need to gloss coat the substrate area and then overcoat with a satin or matt varnish, that is compatible with the decal material. I also use dry print, just need a satin varnish overcoating (you can do without). Wodland Scenics do a wide range in Railroad Roman font in dry print https://woodlandscenics.woodlandscenics.com/show/category/DecalsGraphics Blackhams do these to your design but I have heard there are problems with lead time, shall we say. For something simple BECC's self adhesive vynil range bma, again I have used these. I'll mention Fox's Fox Transfers specialise in model railway vinyl stickers and transfers as the do a nice range od lining decals. Waterslide type, but here is the rub - they are printed so there is no carrier film outside the printed area so they do not need trimming and you can get away without glossing the substrate first. Max

Example of G Scale graphics work - on the loco.

That’s great info - thanks for posting. The decals on the loco are just the type of thing I’m after.

Hi Phil
I make my own using waterslide. On a black loco, If I want white lettering I use white transfer sheet and print the black (or shade of grey/black or other matching colour for rolling stock) background.
If you make the full transfer to fit rectangular areas on the loco the edge of the transfer can be hidden.
I use the clear transfer sheet for colour lettering/design/logo other than white.

I have had sets made by Stan Cedarleaf (sadly recently deceased)in USA, as he used the 'ALPS' system that could print white lettering on waterslide.
There was going to be someone taking over Stan's business but I have not heard if that has come to fruition

If you have an idea of what you want, drop me a line..it is only fair for me to have a go for you as you bought my Climax!

And I have got his other Climax Phil. Welcome to the distressed Climax owners support group . A very select niche society. It' a chronic condition with no cure :D Yes, Stan was a bit of a master of the art. Will be sorely missed. You cannot replace the depth of knowledge he had for the subject and the medium. Max

Had a search around to try to find a uk stockist, not a lot of luck with the 0 gauge ones. Jacksons Models do some smaller letters DT575. GRS do many of the scenics but no lettering though they do have their own transfers. Lettering is a bit of an issue all round, Troeger does nice Euro stuff but at a price.

Anyone know if the 0 lettering has a UK supplier?

Bachmann Europe is the importer. Check here Bachmann Europe plc - scenery-landscape/woodland_scenics -> Decals and Graphics Or you could order direct from maker, assuming there is no restrictions due to agreements with importer - like Accucraft US & Accucraft UK. Note, most of WS dry print products are available as multi size on each sheet. Max

Just a little tip when buying Woodland Scenics dry print (and probably any other makes) Try to avoid buying "old new stock" or suchlike. Old dry print sheets' adhesive can fail on unused items, so the lettering will not release from the sheet, to adhere to the work surface, and sometimes only partially. Always buy new from a reliable source.

As a little side note - G Scale Graphics would appear to be able to match WS colours with their vinyls - so you can mix and match, esspecially on the smaller type sizes that can't be done, or reliably, with vynil.

DJB (better known for their coal fired conversions and whistle fitting) used to do dry print. I got a couple of large sheets to do D&RGW/RGS locos. You could even order different scales from 1:20.3 - dressed an Accy live steam Nevada Short Line 2-6-0 up as D&RGW Moffat. They did a coal fired K-27 a while back. One passed under my nose about 2 years ago. I won't mention the asking price - I'll stick to electric. Max

Yes thinking things through back to my 0 gauge days an 00 befor and after, had no luck with dry kettering. But Methfix, now this was and still is the best for me. Old stock dating back to 1980’s still perfect. Not available tyses days sadly and never in our scale sadly.

Decals? Large scale?

It's a no-brainer - Tom Eivers of Endon Valley Model Decals is THE man - anything you want, just tell him.
