Deltang Advice

I have a query about fitting Deltang r/c to a scratch build. I intend to install two MFA/Como RE 385 motors with both being powered at the same time. The data sheet indicates that they run up to 15v and draw 1.4 amps at maximum efficiency, so (having read and re-read Rik's excellent blog -can't recommend it enough!) I think I need a daughter board, giving a configuration code of Rx65-22-3A2-18v.

Can anyone confirm that this is correct?

Hi Northsider
Thanks for the plug, glad you've found the blog useful.

Yes, you're right. With two motors at that amperage, you'd definitely need a daughter board configured for 2 x 3A outputs. Although the Rx65 is rated at 3A, that's its stall current, so you'd be better playing safe and going for the daughter board.

Best of luck with the build, sounds intriguing

Rik

Thanks, Rik -it proves that your blog clarifies the Deltang website for a beginner in r/c. The build is top secret at the moment (well, not quite as I've posted some early pics somewhere on the web!) and I want to check it all works first. At the moment I've got a static loco with two motors in place, but I want to buy and install the r/c before revealing her to the world...

Looking at it again, I think I need the 6A1 as the motors will both operate at the same time, i.e. in parallel.

In the end I dropped one of the motors as the battery demands gave me a headache. Deltang R/C now installed, and running really well.

Well, now you've let the cat out of the bag (so to speak), I'd say it looks a very nice cat! More pics and a build blog to come? I hope so.

I like the idea of 'live battery' -a bit less alarming than 'live electric'! I'll try to post some pics and a description.

Excellent looking little loco.. Hope you have the 'capacity' to produce a build log?

That's a smart looking thing. Nice work.

Build log posted under Scratch Building. I hope it isn't too long...
