DISMANTLING PIKO BR260

TONYWARD50

Tadpole sexing</br>
just purchased one of these locos from Jeremy and I want to install the decoder and sound.
I have released all (I believe) of the screws on the chassis but still can't get in.
Can anyone help ?

Does it come with both single & double buffers? If so then remove the buffer beams (normally 2 screws each) and you may find another couple underneath.

hi tony. along the centre line of the front bonnet there is a plastic strip just pushed in. lift this carefully from the front and it should lift off.
i think i remember a location lug somewhere along the top for refitting . below the strip is a very deep long screw which i imagine is intended to hold the bonnet down for those of us who still try to lift an engine by the body work. !!
i also think the chimney lifts off out of the way. hope this helps. gerald

p.s when you remove the screws underneath i think it releases the side walk chequer strips which you need to lift first.

Still no joy. I have removed the buffers but there are no screws beneath.
I have attached a photo showing two plastic lugs. Are these the strips you refer to ?

hi tony .no the strips are on the top of the sidewalk moulding. they are moulded as chequer plate. i trhink they are in body colour which is why i took it apart for repainting.
the reason i kept saying "i think" was because it was some time last year on one of the early issues and my memory is not so good these days, but i still love my railway having just turned 79! and i intend to continue as long as i can with using my computer as well.!!
i am sure there is someone who can confirm facts for you. if you have removed the screw into the front bonnet, try tipping the body from the front or rear, there may be a moulded tag into a slot in the chassis body at one end. Do you have the leaflet with exploded views that should be enclosed?
keep trying, gerald

hi yes thanks for that info . if you look at page 10 you can clearly see two tags at the front of the body. meaning i assume that you lift the body from the rear end first. hope that helps. i cannot see any other restrictions on those views. may be worth trying to copy them. gerald

Hi chaps.

I AM IN !!!!!!!!!
Thanks very much. I have found that elusive all-important screw.

Regards,

Lord Elpus
